Obituary of Adam A. Hugick

LITTLE FALLS Adam A. Hugick, 75 of North Creek Road, Little Falls passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at his residence. He was born on April 18, 1935 in the Town of Columbia the son of the late Adam and Mary (Papierski) Hugick. He was raised with three brothers and his two sisters on their family farm in Richfield Springs. He was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School, where he excelled in academics and athletics including track and field and wrestling. He attended Clarkson University until he was drafted into the US Army. Following his discharge from the service he hitchhiked across Europe and the United States. Upon completing his travels he continued his education at Utica College where he received his degree in Engineering. He was formerly married to Patricia (Lyons) Hugick, presently of Utica. Mr. Hugick was employed for 25 years as a Research and Development Engineer for the Remington Arms Co., Ilion retiring in 1986. Mr. Hugick spent over 25 years in his retirement doing what he enjoyed the most, being outdoors. An avid hunter and outdoorsman he converted his small beef farm to a gentlemans farm, raising organic fruits and vegetables. He spent many hours tinkering to improve his processes each year and eventually specialized in garlic and maple syrup. He could frequently be found sharing his harvest and ideas with others at the local farmers markets throughout the Mohawk Valley and beyond. The Mohawk Valley Garlic Festival was his labor of love. Each year he would spend considerable time in advance of the event securing support, canning jam, baking pies and hoping for no rain. He was also active with the Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Little Falls, NY, raising funds for a new roof and singing in the choir. He is survived by his son and daughter in law Bradley J. and Joy Hugick, Atlanta, GA and his daughter and son in law Gretchen and David Kubera and his granddaughter Sara Kubera all of Utica, his brother Paul Hugick and his wife Veronica, Richfield Springs, his sister Mary Lawson and her husband James, Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada, his two sisters in law Irene Hugick, Mohawk, and Katherine Hugick, Ilion, his close friend Nan Ressue, Little Falls and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers Stanley and Casimir Hugick and by a sister Jennie Fountaine. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 11:00 am from the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 588 Albany St., Little Falls with the Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia, Rector officiating. Final interment will take place in St. Josephs Cemetery, Richfield Springs at a later date. The family will be receiving family and friends at the church on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. In lieu of flowers it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Hugick be considered to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Restoration Fund, c/o Jodi Hoage, 588 Albany St., Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
