Obituary of Alkie R. Hinton

DOLGEVILLE Alkie R. Hinton, 75 of 4 E. Faville Ave., Dolgeville passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Little Falls Hospital after being stricken at home. He was born on July 3, 1936 in Tupelo, Mississippi the son of the late John and Beddie (Frederick) Hinton where attended local schools. Mr. Hinton was a veteran of the US Army, entering the service in 1953 he served during the Korean War and later served three tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged at the rank of First Sergeant in 1974 after 21 years of service to his country. He was employed for many years as the auto service manager for the former Montgomery Wards Store, Herkimer and later as a clerk for the US Postal Service in Salisbury Center and was an Electrolux vacuum salesman. From 1988 - 2010 he operated Alkies Vacuum Service Center, in Shoppers Square, Little Falls. He is survived by his companion of over 30 years Madelyn (Barnes) Lawrence, Dolgeville, her sons Thomas Lawrence and his wife Brenda and their son Darrin, Little Falls, NY and Gregory Lawrence and his daughters Danielle and Alyssa, Washington Mills, NY, his sister Avis Cayson, Texas, niece Shelia Greenup and nephew Gary Hinton. He was predeceased by his brother John Hinton. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 6:00 pm from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Joseph Chamberlain, Pastor of the First Assembly of god Church, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in Salisbury Rural Cemetery, Town of Salisbury in the spring where full military honors will be accorded. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 4-6 pm and to attend the funeral services to follow. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Hinton be considered to the First Assembly of God Church, 559 E. Jefferson St., Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
