Obituary of Bernard J. Potter
Little Falls- Bernard J. Potter, 91, of 386 West Main Street, Little Falls passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 25, 2009 at St. Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica.
He was born on July 1, 1918 in Little Falls the son of the late James and Agnes (Lucey) Potter. He was a graduate of St. Marys Academy class of 1936 and attended Sienna College.
He was united in marriage to his wife of 61 years the former Catherine Panik Hooks on April 3, 1948 at St. Marys Church, Little Falls.
Mr. Potter was a veteran of World War II serving with the 145th Infantry 37th Division. He entered the service on February 15, 1943 and was honorably discharged on March 27, 1946 at Ft. Dix, N.J.
He was a member of the Holy Family Parish Church, Little Falls, American Legion Post 31, Little Falls Military Band and was an avid golfer.
Mr. Potter was employed over 20 years as a Industrial Engineer for Remington Arms, Ilion, retiring in 1982.
He is survived by his wife Catherine, 2 sons Michael J. Potter and his wife Gail, Little Falls, Steven M. Potter and his wife Aida, Ballston Lake, NY, a step-daughter Kathleen Hooks Merrifield, Fairfax, CA, a step-son Dr. John J. Hooks and his wife Barbara, Crownsville, MD, a brother William F. Potter and his wife Betty Seattle, WA, a sister Mary Soule, Richfield Springs, 3 grandchildren Matthew B. Potter and Emilie Potter, Ballston Lake, NY, John D. Hooks, Baltimore, MD and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Helen Kerzic.
Funeral Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. There are no calling hours.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Potter be considered to the Holy Family Parish Church, 763 E. Main Street, Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
