Obituary of Caroline K. Barragan
ILION - Caroline K. Barragan 89 of 9 Pennsylvania Ave., Ilion formerly of Salisbury Corners passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Valley Health Services, Herkimer.
She was born on September 4, 1922 in Little Falls the daughter of the late Phillip and Sophie (Muller) Knoblauch. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School and furthered her education at business school in New Jersey.
She was united in marriage to her husband Harold Barragan on February 18, 1950 at the Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls. Mr. Barragan predeceased her on September 15, 1972.
Mrs. Barragan was a life long and active member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Little Falls where she served over the years on the Church Council, the Alter Guild and read the sermon for Sunday services.
An avid gardener and blueberry picker, she also enjoyed baking and was known for her pies and rolls, spending time with her family and friends and was a loyal Yankees fan.
Mrs. Barragan was employed at onetime for the Hale Mfg. Co., Herkimer, the Cherry Burrell Corp., Little Falls and was last employed as a customer service representative for the Rawlings Adirondack Co., Dolgeville retiring in 1987.
She is survived by her son David J. Barragan, Canajoharie, her daughters Colleen Stark, Ashland, KY, Claudia Schlichtmann and her husband Jan, Beverly, MA and Cathleen Lester and her husband Thomas, Ilion with whom she resided and Tom referred to as "Mother in Law", nine grandchildren Ryan Stark, Rachel Stark and fiancé© Jordan Clark and Daniel Stark, Elliott Lester, Tucker Lester and Benjamin Lester, Max Schlichtmann, Zak Schlichtmann and Sophia Schlichtmann, her nephew William and his wife Linda Knoblauch; Boynton Beach, FL, who was like a son to her, her cousin Eleanor Keil, Dolgeville and dear friend Helen Maksymicz, Little Falls and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and her beloved cat Meshugeneh. She was predeceased by her son Daniel M. Barragan on October 1, 1986 and by her bothers Edward, 1993 and William, 2005.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 10:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Karen Casperson officiating. Interment will take place in Salisbury Rural Cemetery, Town of Salisbury.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Saturday, July 21, 2012 from 9-10 am and to attend the funeral services to follow.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Barragan be considered to the Christ Lutheran Church, 14 Petrie St., Little Falls, NY 13365 or to the Herkimer County Humane Society, PO Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
