Obituary of Charles H. Leon, Jr

LITTLE FALLS - Charles H. Leon, Jr., 78 of Valley View Courts, Apt. C-2, Little Falls passed away Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Little Falls Hospital after being stricken at home. He was born on July 15, 1926 in Utica the son of the late Charles and Edna (Johnson) Leon, Sr. He was educated in Little Falls Schools. He was united in marriage to the former Eleanor R. Pettengill on March 24, 1951 at the First Baptist Church, Little Falls with the Rev. Frederick Thorne officiating. Mr. Leon was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Merchant Marines at Sheepshead Bay, LI, NY. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Little Falls. He was also a very active volunteer fireman having served for many years with the Salisbury and Ilion Volunteer Fire Departments. He was also the past president of the Herkimer County Volunteer Fireman's Association. Mr. Leon was employed at two different times by the former Producers Co-Op, Dolgeville and later as a Barn Inspector of the Northeast Dairy Association. He also served as a Inspector for the Glen Mohawk Dairy, Fultonville. He was last employed by the former Daniel Green Co., Dolgeville retiring in 1988. He is survived by his wife Eleanor, 3 sons Charles W. Leon and his wife Robin, Herkimer, William D. Leon, Sr., Herkimer, and Scott S. Leon and his companion Kathleen Ball, Frankfort, a daughter Elaine Farley and her husband Roger, Herkimer, 6 Brothers Leo Leon, Dayton Leon and his wife Florence both of Little Falls, Gordon Leon and his wife Frances, Herkimer, Dennis Leon and his wife Gerda, Texas, Thomas Leon and his wife Sarah, Oklahoma, and Terry Leon and his wife Chieko, Kentucky, 2 sisters Shirley Ashley and her husband Fred, and Patricia Tennant and her husband Vaughn, both of Little Falls, 5 grandchildren Walter Leon, Hedi Leon, John Youker, David Youker and William D. Leon, Jr., 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers Richard Leon, who died on December 21, 2003 and Harold Leon, and a sister Edna Mae Barney. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at 11:00 am from the First Baptist Church, 555 Albany Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Donald L. Dixon, Pastor officiating. Interment will take place in Stratford Cemetery, Town of Stratford at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. There are no calling hours. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Leon be considered to the St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children & Women, 92 W. Miller Street, Orlando, FL 32806-2036. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
