Donald H. Schubbe DOLGEVILLE - Donald H. Schubbe, 80 of 32 Slawson Street, Dolgeville passed away Saturday, December 27, 2003 at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home, St. Johnsville where he had been a resident since August of 2003. He was born on February 11, 1923 in Little Falls. The son of the late Henry A. and Gladys (Helterline) Schubbe. Donald graduated from Little Falls High School, and was a resident of Little Falls until 1946 when the family moved to Dolgeville. He was united in marriage to the former Jane L. Garlick on November 18, 1950 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2000. Donald was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He served with the US Army in the 603rd Engineer Camouflage Battalion from June 1943 - October of 1945 and September 1950 - October 1951 respectfully. Serving in a camouflage unit, he was awarded 5 Battle Stars for duty in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and central Europe along with the Normandy Medal of Freedom, and the Good Conduct Medal. Following his discharge, he returned to Little Falls, subsequently being employed as a chef at the Dolgeville Restaurant, Club Indigo, Gladys and Hanks, restaurants owned by his parents. Employment also took him to Adirondack Bats., Inc., and retirement from Remington Arms., Inc. in 1978. He was a member of the Holy Family Parish of Little Falls. His affiliations included membership in the Little Falls American Legion Post # 31, Charter and Life Member of the S/Sgt. Steve Stefula Post # 4612, V.F.W., Little Falls, a 58 year member of the Little Falls Elk's Lodge # 42, B.P.O.E, 30 year member of the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge # 796 F&AM, a member of the Spofford Hose Co., serving as Chief in 1961, a Charter Member of the Dolgeville Volunteer and Exempt Fireman's Benevolent Association, serving as 2nd vice president at the time of his passing. He is survived by his wife Jane, his daughter June Marino and her husband Andrew, Woodbridge, VA, 3 grandchildren, Cheryl, Kenneth and Patricia Marino of Woodbridge, VA, also a niece D. Alice Garlick, Queensbury, NY and a nephew Paul Garlick, Bolton Landing, NY. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at 11:00 am from the Holy Family Parish Church, Cor. Main & John Str.'s, Little Falls where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Vail. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills in the spring where full military honors will be accorded. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls on Monday, December 29, 2003 from 6-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Tuesday morning. Members of the Little Falls Elk's Lodge # 42 will call in a body at the funeral home on Monday evening at 7:00 pm to conduct their ritualistic services.
