Obituary of Dorothy M. Handy

INGHAMS MILLS Dorothy M. Handy, 90 of the Inghams Mills Road, Little Falls passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the Presbyterian Home, New Hartford where she has been a resident for the past several months. She was born on July 31, 1920 in the Town of Oppenheim the daughter of the late Jesse N. and Ursula (Peck) Johnson. She was educated in Oppenheim Rural Schools and was a graduate of Dolgeville High School class of 1938. She was united in marriage to her husband of 39 years Harold R. Handy on November 14, 1940 at the First Baptist Church parsonage, Fort Plain. Mr. Handy predeceased her on June 24, 1979. Mrs. Handy was a member of the Inghams Mills Baptist Church where she served at for many years as a Deacon and Trustee and was also active in the Ladies Aid Society of the church. Her hobbies included quilting, woodworking, weaving, and gardening. She was employed at one time by the former Dalson Shoe Co., Dolgeville and was last employed by the former Daniel Green Co., Dolgeville until her retirement. She is survived by her son and daughter in law Gary and Joanne Handy, Tully, NY and daughters and sons in law Donna and Donald Dobrovolc, Inghams Mills and Debra and David Suits, Colonie, NY, her sisters Lois Cagwin, Florida and R. Beverly Salerno, New Hartford, 12 grandchildren Lynn Cunningham (Andrew), Beth Castilleja (Timothy), Jill Merrow (Benjamin), Daniel Suits (Christine), Dana McCrea (Brian), Diana Suits, Danae Suits (Asaf), Elaine Dobrovolc, Regina Handy, David Dobrovolc (Amy), Stephanie Allen (Jeff) and Grace Saxe (David), 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Jesse Johnson, Jr., Leo Johnson, Harold Johnson, and David Johnson. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 18, 2011 at 10:00 am from the Chapman Moser Funeral Home, 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with Pastor Gertrude Ortlieb officiating. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 3-6 pm and to attend the funeral services Monday morning. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Handy be considered to the Inghams Mills Baptist Church, 439 Snells Bush Road, Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
