Obituary of Edward J. Peters

UTICA - Edward J. Peters, 93, of Northrup Drive, Utica passed away Sunday, June 24, 2007 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica where he had been a patient since June 23. He was born on December 3, 1913 in Utica the son of the late George and Mary (Williams) Peters. He was educated in Utica Schools. He was united in marriage to his wife of 46 years the former Gladys Dixon on April 11, 1942 at St. Joseph's Church, Dolgeville. Mrs. Peters predeceased him on December 17, 1988. Mr. Peters was a former member of St. Joseph's Church, Dolgeville, as well as a member of the former Knights of Columbus Council # 7675, Dolgeville where he served as a member of the fourth degree color guard, he was also a member at onetime of the Little Falls Elk Lodge # 42, BPOE and former Dolgeville Rotary Club. Mr. Peters was well known in the valley for his years of service in both retail and wholesale groceries. In 1937 he purchased the former Royal Market on Main St., Little Falls which he operated until selling the business to P&C Foods in 1947. In 1952 he opened the Royal Market located on Main St., Dolgeville, in 1957 while operating the store he also started Frosted Food Service. In 1959 fire destroyed the grocery store. He continued to operate Frosted Food Service at the Main St., Dolgeville location until 1961 when they out grew the building and relocated the business to Little Falls. In 1965 he and his nephew Gabe Mardany started Polar Bear Frosted Foods in Utica which they operated until 1971. In 1971 he and his son E. Dixon Peters began Eddix Enterprises, Inc., a food brokerage company in Utica which he operated until his retirement and his son continues to operate today. He is survived by his son E. Dixon Peters and his companion, Lois Miller, Utica, his brother George Peters, Little Falls, his adoptive grandson David Miller and his wife Catherine, Webster, NY and their children Colleen Denton and her husband Andrew, Ashley, Amber and Ryan Miller all of Webster, NY, his nieces and nephews Sue Frey Liebgott and her husband Dr. Allan Liebgott, Denver, CO, Dennis Frey, Santa Barbara, CA, Gabe Mardany and his wife Hilda, Utica, Dr. William Tastle and his wife Gerri, Endicott, NY, Robert Tastle and his wife Nancy, Dallas, TX and Greg Peters and his wife Sharon, Cortland, NY and several grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother John Peters and 3 sisters Josephine Tastle, Fabia (Fay) Peters and Anna Mardany. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 10:30 am from St. Joseph's Church, 31 N. Helmer Ave, Dolgeville, NY where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Leo Potvin. Interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Dolgeville. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N.
