Obituary of Edward K. Dean

LITTLE FALLS Edward K. Dean 88 of 5889 State Route 167, Little Falls passed away Monday, January 28, 2008 at St. Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica where he had been a patient since January 25, 2008. He was born on September 23, 1919 in Ossining, NY the son of the late Ernest and Edna (Rohr) Dean. He was a graduate of Ossining High School as well as a graduate of Columbia University, NYC, NY. He was united in marriage to his wife of 35 years the former Janice Miller on February 3, 1973 at St. Pauls Universalist Church, Little Falls. Mr. Dean was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Coast Guard - Merchant Marines. Entering the service on December 26, 1944 in New York City. He was honorably discharged on November 10, 1945 in Los Angeles, CA. He was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls. As well as a member of the Elks Lodge # 42 BPOE, Little Falls where he served as treasurer for many years. He was also a member and past treasurer of the Sprite Club, Dolgeville. Ed was an avid sailor who enjoyed sailing and racing Lighting Class sailboats for which he was awarded many trophies. He also enjoyed bowling and golfing, but was especially fond of fishing with his children at the Sprite Club. Mr. Dean was employed as an accountant beginning his career with the Peate, Marwick & Mitchell accounting firm in New York City. He later became the treasurer for the former H.P. Snyder Mfg. Co., Little Falls and was last employed by the White Management firm of Clinton, NY. Following his retirement, he was self employed locally as an accountant and tax preparer. A dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather he is survived by his wife Janice, a son William Kirby Dean, Baltimore, MD, 2 daughters Debra Marshall, Dolgeville and Donna Hull and her husband Jack, Little Falls, a sister Barbara Brockhausen, N. Carolina, a sister in law Joan Dean, Little Falls, 7 grandchildren Alex Marshall, Andrew Marshall, William Alex Dean, Hanna Hull, Freddie Hull and her fiancé© Stephen Prestigiacomo, Nolan Hull, Gus Hull and a nephew William Dean, Albany. He was predeceased by a son Dennis Dunn and a brother William Dean. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 1, 2008 at 10:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia, Rector of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills in the spring. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Thursday, January 31, 2008 from 5-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Friday morning. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Dean be considered to the American Lung Assn., 61 Broadway, New York, NY 10006 or to the St. Judes Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
