Obituary of Elizabeth E (Bette) Ashe

UTICA-Elizabeth E (Bette) Ashe, 97, formerly of Mapleton Drive, Utica and more recently a resident of the Lutheran Home, Clinton, N.Y. passed away Saturday, October 16, 2010 after a long illness. She was born on March 25, 1913 in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Stepfan and Suzanna [Sadlon] Talaba. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School and furthered her education in Albany NY, specializing in the nursing and care of infants and children. In 1937 she was united in marriage to her beloved husband Bob who predeceased her on November 15, 2001. From 1947-1963 the couple resided in Gloversville and then relocated to Utica where they spent the remainder of their 64 year marriage. In addition to raising her children she was also employed by the former Acme Markets in both Gloversville and Utica. Bette's main interests in life centered on her home, garden and the enjoyment of her beloved grandchildren. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls. She is survived by her son Robert M. Ashe and his wife Karen, New Bern NC, her daughter Janet J. Winig and her husband Bob, Gloversville, NY, her 5 grandchildren, Scott Winig (Ruth) NC/CA, Cory Winig (Jenny) NYC, Nikki Winig, CA, Jennifer Ashe Marshall (Kevin) NC, Bridget Ashe Nowak (Chris) NC, 5 great grandchildren, Caleb Winig, Hayden Winig, Hannah Elizabeth Winig, Aaron Nowak and Ryan Nowak. She is also survived by her sister in-law Betty Ashe, Utica NY and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Stephan and Samuel Talaba and 5 sisters Anna Kovac, Catherine Kovac, Susan Paulus, Mildred Lenarcic and Christine Stransky. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 1:00 pm from the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 E Gansevoort Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Joseph Famulare, Pastor officiating. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Little Falls, NY. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N Ann Street, Little Falls, NY. There are no calling hours. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Bette be considered to the Alzheimers Association, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St, Syracuse, NY 13204 or the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 E. Gansevoort St, Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
