Obituary of Everett L. Barnes

STRATFORD Everett L. Barnes, 81 formerly of 148 McClure Road, Stratford and since June of 2009 a resident of the Alpine Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Little Falls passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at that residence. He was born on November 24, 1929 in Stratford the son of the late George and Edna (Lyons) Barnes. He was a graduate of Stratford High School class of 1948. He was united in marriage to his wife of 50 years the former Irene Rockwell on August 12, 1950 in Dillon, SC. Mrs. Barnes predeceased him on July 17, 2000. Mr. Barnes was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the US Navy. Entering the service in December 16, 1948 in Albany. He served as a Hospital Corpsman until his honorable discharge on December 15, 1952. He was of the Methodist faith. Mr. Barnes was employed for 26 years and a Senior Quality Control Technician for the Remington Arms Co., Ilion, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Remington 25 year club, Ilion Moose Lodge # 1010, Little Falls American Legion Post# 31, Salisbury Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club, and at onetime served on the Stratford School Board. He is survived by his 2 sons and daughters in law Gary and Carol Barnes, Columbia, SC and Craig and Kelly Barnes, Fayetteville, GA, 3 granddaughters Sara, Charlotte, NC, Alexa, Columbia, SC and Samantha, Fayetteville, GA, 4 grandsons Nathan, Ethan, Evan and Luke all of Fayetteville, GA, his brother Leo Barnes, Pleasant Lake, NY and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Helen Barnes Daly. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 12. 2011 at 10:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Roger Waldron, Pastor of the Salisbury United Methodist church officiating. Interment will take place in Stratford Cemetery, Town of Salisbury. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Thursday, August 11, 2011 from 6-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Friday morning. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Barnes be considered to the Alzheimers Association, Central NY Chapter, 441 West Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
