Obituary of George J. Cummings

George J. Cummings LITTLE FALLS - George J. Cummings, 91 of 5249 State Route 167, (Hendrick Manor), Little Falls passed away unexpectedly Thursday, August 21, 2003 at his residence. He was born on June 17, 1912 in Burlington, VT the son of the late John D. and Mary (Seith) Cummings. He was a graduate of Johnstown, NY High School, he attended Cornell University, University of Kansas, earned a B.S. degree from the University of Vermont and a M.S. degree from Syracuse University. He was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Nixon on November 2, 1941 in Suffern, NY. Mrs. Cummings predeceased him on June 4, 1997. He was a member of St. Paul's Universalist Church, Little Falls. He was the founder and charter member of the Little Falls Kiwanis Club and served as its first president, he was the past president of the Mohawk Valley Country Club, a member of the NYS Science Teachers Association, the National Education Association and the Faculty Association of the SUNY. Mr. Cummings began his teaching career as a science teacher. He later went into administration and served as Principal of Little Falls High School, and was the Assistant Dean of Education of SUNY Cortland. He was last employed as the Associate Vice President of Upper Division College, SUNY, Utica. Retiring in 1979. He is survived by his son John R. Cummings and his wife Kathy, Lyndonville, NY, his daughter Jean Anne Hart and her husband Robert, Littleton, CO, 2 sisters Athena P. Breymaier, Schenectady and Valarie H. Holton, Silver Springs, MD, 5 granddaughters 1 great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial gathering at St. Paul's Universalist Church, Albany Street, Little Falls on Friday, August 29, 2003 at 11:00 am. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. There are no calling hours In lieu of flowers it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Cummings be considered to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
