Obituary of George Sagatis

LITTLE FALLS George Sagatis, 88 formerly of State Route 167 (Paines Hollow) and since March of 2011 a resident of the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion passed away Friday, August 5, 2011 at that residence. He was born on October 19, 1922 in the Town of Little Falls the son of the late Alphonse and Effie (Drager) Sagatis. He a was educated in Van Hornesville Schools. Mr. Sagatis for many years operated the family dairy farm in Paines Hollow along with his brother Alphonse (Sig). While continuing to help on the farm he became a Maintenance Mechanic and Equipment Operator working for various construction companies in the area. He was last employed by Town of Little Falls as Highway Superintendent from 1973 - 1977. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 158. He is survived by his nieces, nephews and their families Joann Bundy, Joyce Gersack, Charles Potter, Jr., Bonnie Frederick, Frank Sciortino, Mary Alice Rieman, John George, Richard George, Robert George, Ronald George, Bernard Sagatis, Edward Sagatis and John Sagatis He was predeceased by his brothers Alphonse (Sig) and Bruno Sagatis, his sisters, Frances DePellio, Isabelle Potter, Alice George and Jennie Sciortino and a niece Betty Reardon. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 11:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Thomas Lawless officiating. Interment will take place in St. Marys Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 9, 2011 from 9-11 am and to attend the funeral services to follow.
