Obituary of Gladys Winkler

DOLGEVILLE- Gladys Winkler, 77 of 279 Moore Road, Salisbury passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Valley Health Services, Herkimer with her loving family at her side. She was born on June 8, 1933 in the town of Glen the daughter of the late George and Mildred (Hagedorn) Brooks. She was educated in Bleecker rural schools. On September 25, 1954 she was united in marriage to her loving husband of 56 years Robert H. Winkler in the town of Bleecker where she grew up. Mrs. Winkler was of the Methodist faith. Gladys was a past member of the Salisbury Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the former Dolgeville Lioness Club. Gladys and Robert resided in Salisbury most of their life running the family farm . She is survived by her husband Robert, three sons Fred G. Winkler, Little Falls, John Winkler and wife Tina, Salisbury, Dennis Winkler and his wife Kathy, Dolgeville, a daughter Phyllis Giachetti and her husband Gary, Little Falls, a brother George Stewart Brooks, two sisters Lorainne Bleyl and her husband Bob, Marilyn Goodwin, eight grandchildren Stacy Kruse, FL, Robert Winkler, Rochester, Fred Winkler, Nevada, Jason Winkler, Salisbury, Eric Winkler, Auburn, Matthew Winkler, Salisbury, Deanne Winkler, NC, Katelyn Winkler, Dolgeville, 6 Great Grandchildren Cassidy, Steven and Ethan Winkler, Seth, Jacob and Allison Kruse, two sister-in-laws Eleanor and Edna Brooks, also brothers/sisters-in-law Helen Fries, Virginia Winkler, Doris and Harry McIntosh, Glenn and Joanne Winkler and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gladys also leaves Foxy and Lady her favorite furry canine companions. She was predeceased by a granddaughter Beth Winkler in 1996, two brothers Milton and Douglas Brooks, a sister-in-law Patricia Brooks and brothers/sisters-in-law Robert Fries, Ralph Winkler, Marion and Charles Fox. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 11:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with Rev. Alan Griffith of the Ft. Plain United Methodist Church, Ft. Plain officiating. Interment will take place in Salisbury Rural Cemetery, Salisbury in the spring. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 from 4-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Wednesday morning. In lieu of flowers it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Winkler be considered to the Valley Health Adult Healthcare c/o Cheryl LaQuay, 690 West German Street, Herkimer, NY., 13350 or Salisbury Vol. Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, 2549 State Route 29, Salisbury, NY. 13454. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
