Obituary of Harold H. (Hap) Cagwin

INGHAMS MILLS - Harold H. (Hap) Cagwin, 79 formerly of County Highway 108, Inghams Mills and more recent of Marina Drive, St. Johnsville passed away Friday, July 20, 2007 at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica where he had been a patient since July 16, 2007. He was born on July 12, 1928 in Newville (Town of Danube) the son of the late Leo H. and Leona (Russell) Cagwin. He was educated in Newville Rural and Little Falls Schools. He was united in marriage to his wife of 58 years the former Lois M. Johnson on August 6, 1949 at the Inghams Mills Baptist Church. He was a member of the Inghams Mills Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee at onetime. He was also a member of the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge # 796 F&AM, the Ziyara Shrine AAONMS, Utica and the Scottish Rite and served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Rural Park Cemetery Association, Inghams Mills. Since 1999, he and his wife Lois enjoyed spending the winter months at their home in Leesburg, FL. Mr. Cagwin was a heavy equipment operator for the Operating Engineers, Local 545, Syracuse for 30 years, retiring in 1989. Prior to his years in the construction industry he owned and operated the family dairy farm in the Town of Danube. He is survived by his wife Lois, 2 sons Roger D. Cagwin and his wife Eva, Columbus, IN and Robert A. Cagwin and his wife Karla, Dolgeville, 2 brothers Otis W. Cagwin and his wife Alberta, Freys Bush, NY and Leo Russell Cagwin and his wife Ruth, Trail, Oregon, a sister H. Delight Oldick and her husband Donald, Newville, 4 grandchildren Cassie Cagwin, Lafayette, IN, Callie Betz and her husband Adam, Connecticut, Kyle Cagwin, Little Falls and Krysta Cagwin, Dolgeville and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Houghton D. Cagwin on February 26, 1998. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at 10:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with Pastor Gertrude Ortlieb of the Inghams Mills Baptist Church officiating. Interment will take place at the convenience of the family in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills at a later date. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 from 5-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Wednesday morning. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Cagwin be considered to the Inghams Mills Baptist Church, 439 Inghams Mills Road, Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose. Members of the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge # 796 F&AM will call in a body on Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm to conduct their ritualistic services.
