Obituary of Fred M. Harrington

LITTLE FALLS - Fred M. Harrington, 87 formerly of 78 N. William Street, Little Falls and Cape Cod, MA, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2006 in Portland, Oregon ,where he had been staying with his grand niece Amy and her family since February of 2006. He was born on April 25, 1919 in Amsterdam, NY the son of the late Fred M. and Emma (Simpson) Harrington. He was a graduate of Amsterdam High School. He was united in marriage to his wife of 65 years the former Mary Marotta on November 25, 1939 in Amsterdam, NY. Mrs. Harrington predeceased him on February 19, 2004. Mr. Harrington was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army Air Corps. Entering the service on September 19, 1942 at Camp Upton, NY. He served with he 301st AAF Base Unit in the European theater. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on October 24, 1945 at Drew Field, Florida. He was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Harrington was employed for many years as a salesman for his brother in law, Neil Shaffer Motors, Little Falls. He was last employed as the assistant treasurer for the former Little Falls Building Savings and Loan Association until his retirement. He is survived by his niece Mary K. Barker, Cape Cod, MA,, 2 nephews Robert Barker, Amsterdam, NY and Charles Barker, Portland, Oregon, his grand niece Amy Malagamba and her husband Neal and their family, Portland Oregon and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters Dorothy Barker, who died in January of 1967 and Marion B. Shaffer - Vickery, who died on August 20, 2000. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. There are no calling hours.
