Obituary of De Etta Helmer

De Etta Helmer Little Falls-De Etta Helmer, 84, formerly of 167 Burwell Street, Little Falls passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at Valley Health Services with her family at her side. She was a resident there since April 3, 2006. She was born October 1, 1921 in St. Johnsville, the daughter of the late Lester and Ida (Swartz) Rockefeller. She was graduate of the St. Johnsville High School class of 1942. She was united in marriage to her husband Philip (Pete) Helmer on October 6, 1942 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, St. Johnsville. She was predeceased by Pete on December 30, 1985. Mrs. Helmer was a member of the St' Paul's Universalist Church and was a life member of the American Legion Post #31 Ladies Auxiliary, Little Falls where she spent many years as an active member. Mrs. Helmer was the owner and operator of De Etta's Beauty Salon, Little Falls until 1975. She spent many of her retired years taking care of elderly members of the Little Falls community. Mrs. Helmer had deep love and devotion to her family. She enjoyed spending her spare time gardening, crocheting, doing ceramics, and spending time with her family. Her daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will always remember the generosity and love she showed them through the years. She will be deeply missed by her loved ones and her exuberant spirit will be remembered always. She is survived by a daughter Maureen, Little Falls, Three Grandsons Michael Manley and wife Rosemary, Clinton, Shea Manley and wife Eileen, Herkimer and Scott Manley, Little Falls, Four Great Grandchildren Cory, Philip, Marcus and Erin Elizabeth Manley, a sister Mrs. Irene March, Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews and a devoted canine companion Ella. She was predeceased by two sisters Mrs. Dorothy Douglas and Mrs. Isabel Smith. It is the wishes of Mrs. Helmer that there be No Calling Hours and burial be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Helmer be considered to the S&S Volunteer Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 441, Salisbury Center, NY. 13454. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the entire staff of the Valley Health Services for their kindness and compassion shown to Mrs. Helmer and her family. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls.
