Obituary of James Harold O'Brien
MIDDLEVILLE James Harold OBrien 93 formerly of 53 Fairfield Street, Middleville and since November of 2006 a resident of the Folts Home, Herkimer passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at that residence.
He was born on October 7, 1915 in Little Falls the son of the late John M. and Ellen T. (Sullivan) OBrien. He was a graduate of St. Marys Academy, Little Falls.
He was united in marriage to his wife of 36 years the former Nelly A. Berner on October 21, 1961 at St. Marys Church, Little Falls. Mrs. OBrien predeceased him on August 11, 1997.
Mr. OBrien was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army. He entered the service on August 27, 1942 in Utica. He served as a Medical Technician with the 227th General Hospital in Central Europe. He was honorably discharged on March 24, 1946 as a Corporal at Ft. Dix, NJ.
He was a member of the Holy Family Parish Church, Little Falls. as well as a life member of the American Legion Post # 31, Little Falls and the S/Sgt. Steve Stefula Post # 4612, VFW, Little Falls.
For many years he and his wife Nelly enjoyed spending the summer at their camp on Keyser Lake along with their dog Shamus, as well as spending their winters at their home in Winter Haven, Florida
Mr. OBrien was employed for many years by the Department of Public Works, Little Falls.
He is survived by his nephews Jack Berner and his wife Kathleen, Middleville and David Bone and his wife Karen, Oppenheim, nieces Rosemary View and her husband Ed, Mohawk, Carol Bone, Ithaca and Diane Bone, Rochester and many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 brothers John, George and Kenneth OBrien and by 3 sisters Ann Shepardson, Mary Sullivan and Agnes Marmet.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 10:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls and at 10:30 am from the Holy Family Parish Church, Cor, Main & John Sts, Little Falls where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills in the spring of 2009 where full Military Honors will be accorded.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Friday, December 26, 2008 from 5-7 pm and to attend the funeral services Saturday morning.
