Obituary of Jessie A. Eaker

HERKIMER - Jessie A. Eaker, 93 of 105 Protection Ave., (Galinsky Apt.s) Herkimer and formerly of Little Falls and Dolgeville passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica. She was born on April 5, 1916 in the Town of Salisbury the daughter of the late Oliver and Adeline (Johnson) Curtis. She was educated in Dolgeville Rural Schools. She was first united in marriage to Herman Haas who predeceased her several years ago. On October 5, 1943 she was united in marriage to Clarence Eaker. He predeceased her on June 2, 1967. She was a member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post # 31 Ladies Auxiliary, Little Falls, the Little Falls Polish Community Home and the Little Falls German Maennechor. An avid bowler for many years she belonged to numerous leagues in Dolgeville where she won many titles and traveled to many tournaments throughout New York State and Canada with her daughter Patti. She was also a huge fan of the New York Yankees and enjoyed crocheting for her many friends and family. But her greatest joy came from gathering her family together for home cooked meals where she enjoyed being the life of the party. Mrs. Eaker for many years along with her husband Clarence operated the family Dairy Farm in Inghams Mills. During World War II she was employed by the Remington Arms Co., Ilion, following the war she was employed by the former Dalson Shoe Co, the Leda Shoe Co. and the Daniel Green Co. all of Dolgeville. She was also the cook at the Polish Community Home for many years. She was last employed in the Assembly Dept. of the General Electric Co., Utica retiring in 1981. For several years she along with her companion James Kirley owned and operated Kirleys Hideaway in Fonda. She is survived by her sons Herman Haas and his wife Patricia, Warsaw, NY, Clarence Eaker and his wife Lucille, Boca Raton, FL, her daughters Patricia Costanzo, Herkimer, Frances Kramerer, Herkimer, Shirley Gargiulo and her husband Thomas, Sugarland, TX and Marlene Foley and her husband Frances, Herkimer, 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her dear friend and companion for 13 years Norbert J. Steele on December 29, 1992 and by her daughter Janice Haas in 1944, her brother Oliver Curtiss, who was Killed in Action in Germany during World War II and 2 infant brothers Joel and Noble Curtis and by 6 sisters Lucy Darling, Carrie Johnson, Stella Hutchins, Ada Bahr, Maude Satterlee and Effie Klock. Graveside memorial services will be held on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 1:00 pm at Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills with the Rev. John Reams, Pastor of the Salisbury United Methodist Church officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 from 11:00 am 1:00 pm and to attend the graveside services Friday afternoon. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Eaker be considered to the Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
