Obituary of John J. Zambri

Little Falls- John J. Zambri, 87, of 8259 State Route 5, Little Falls passed away Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Little Falls Hospital. He was born on January 29, 1920 in Little Falls the son of the late Rocco and Lucy (Volpe) Zambri. He was educated in the Little Falls Schools. He was united in Marriage to the former Mary J. Grau on September 18, 1943 at St. Mary's Church, Little Falls. Mr. Zambri was a veteran of the US Coast Guard. Entering the service on May 14, 1942 serving as Ship's Cook Third Class. He was honorably discharged on October 31, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York. He was a member of the Salisbury Ridge Runners and Mohawk Valley Auto Club. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. John enjoyed going to car shows and riding his snowmobiles. He was an avid outdoors man especially when it came to working on his own yard that he took great pride in. Mr. Zambri worked in his families bakery as a youth and started his own market named Top of the Hill Food Market. In 1956 he expanded his market into a marine shop and moved to Route 5 and built a home. He retired in 1990 when his son John R. Zambri took over the family business. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary, 2 sons Thomas Zambri and his wife Mary, Mohawk and John Zambri and his wife Darlene, Little Falls, 2 daughters Catherine Danks and her husband Robert, Searsport, ME and Lorraine Smith and her husband Stephen, Cope Cod, MA, a sister Angeline Taverni and her husband Bernard, Herkimer, 4 grandchildren Burke and Lillian Zambri and Shaun and Kara Smith, 2 great grandchildren Nathan and Clarissa Zambri. He also had a special feline companion Coco. He was predeceased by a sister Phyllis DePiazza. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at 9:30 am from the Holy Family Parish Church, Cor. Main & John St's, Little Falls where a mass of Christian burial will be con-celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato and Rev. Daniel Lanza. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home Monday, February 19, 2007 from 6-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Tuesday morning. In lieu of flowers it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Zambri may be considered to the Community Animal Program, 15 Jackson Street, Little Falls, NY. 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
