Obituary of John R. (Jack) Coffin

LITTLE FALLS John R. (Jack) Coffin, 85 formerly of 130 Lower Paradise Rd, Little Falls (Town of Danube) and since October 7, 2002 a resident of Valley Health Services, Herkimer passed away Monday, March 24, 2008 at that residence. He was born on August 22, 1922 in Little Falls the son of the late Leon and Rose (Mulligan) Coffin. He was educated in Town of Danube rural and Little Falls schools. He was united in marriage to his wife of 57 years the former Betty A. Darling on June 26, 1948 at St. Marys Church, Little Falls. Mrs. Coffin predeceased him on August 28, 2005. He was a member of the Holy Family Parish of Little Falls. As well as a member of the former Owls Club, Little Falls and was past president of the Valley Health Services Daycare Activities Group. Mr. Coffin began his working career on the family dairy farm and later worked in the logging industry for his father in law Clifford Darling and later was employed for many years as a heavy equipment operator for the Horender Construction Co., Little Falls. He was last employed in the assembly department of the Remington Arms Co., Ilion. Retiring in 1985 after 17 years of service. He is survived by 3 sons Clifford Coffin and his wife Linda, Cedarville, Robert Coffin, Little Falls and John R. Coffin, Jr. and his fiancé© Christy Major, Johnstown, 2 daughters Donna Blakeslee and her husband Gary, Amsterdam and Lucinda Richards and her husband Kevin, Little Falls, a sister Patricia Weaver Lynch, Little Falls, 12 grandchildren Clifford and Trudy Coffin, Daniel and Bobbilee Coffin, Jeremy and Michelle Blakeslee, Steven and Stephanie Blakeslee, John and Heather Blakeslee, Ryan and Jessica Coffin, Robert Richards, Cheyenne Richards, Teresa Coffin, Joshua Coffin, Kalub Coffin and Matthew Coffin, 18 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, a special friend Sam Scialdone, Valley Health Services, brothers and sisters in law Harry and Marlyn Darling, St. Johnsville, George and Gladys ONeil, Little Falls and Nancy Coffin, Herkimer. He was predeceased by 3 brothers Leon, Norman and Edwin Coffin, 4 sisters Lizzie Horgan, Alice Silvernail, Margaret Liddon, Frances Coffin and Ida Rake and a granddaughter Eliza Richards, on July 5, 1993. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at 12:00 pm from the Holy Family Parish Church, Cor. of Main & John Sts, Little Falls where a mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato. Interment will take place in St. Marys Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 from 5-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Thursday at noon. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Coffin be considered to the Holy Family Parish Church, 763 E. Main St., Little Falls, NY 13365 or to Valley Health Services, 690 W. German St., Ext., Herkimer, NY 13350. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose. He will be sadly missed by many of the staff and his friends at Valley Health Services. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for care and friendship shown to Mr. Coffin by Valley Health Services, especially Chris Congdon, Laura Pedrick, Marla Congdon, Donna Golicki and Dr. Kathryn Miller.
