Obituary of John R. Grainer, Sr
LITTLE FALLS - John R. Grainer, Sr., 70 of 220 Church Street, Little Falls passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 7, 2005 at Little Falls Hospital after being stricken at home.
He was born on October 9, 1934 in Little Falls the son of the late Frank and Rita (Goodbread) Grainer. He was educated in Richfield Springs schools.
He was united in marriage to the former Mary Lou Barnes on August 30, 1958 in Albany.
Mr. Grainer was a veteran of the US Army. Entering the service on December 27, 1954 in Albany. He served with the 417th T Co., at Ft. Eustis, VA. He was honorably discharged on December 18, 1956.
He was a member of the Little Falls German Maennechor, the Little Falls Moose Lodge # 615, IOOM, and the S/Sgt. Steve Stefula Post # 4612, VFW, Little Falls and was a member of the Little Falls Call Firemen's Association for 12 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as a New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills Fan and enjoyed following WWF Wrestling.
Mr. Grainer after returning from the service was first employed as a firefighter for the City of Little Falls Fire Dept. for 2 years. In 1958 he transferred to the Dept. of Public Works where he remained for 39 years retiring as an Asst. Street Foreman in August of 1994.
A devoted and loving family man he is survived by his wife Mary Lou, 2 sons John R. Grainer, Jr. and his wife Susie, Herkimer and Jeffrey A. Grainer and his wife Cindy, Little Falls, 4 daughters Debra Pendolf and her husband Joseph, Little Falls, Kathy Grainer, Little Falls, Jodi Grower and her husband Richard, Little Falls and Lori Denmark and her husband Michael, Little Falls, 2 brothers Kenneth Grainer and his wife Mary, Little Falls and Bernard Grainer and his wife Winifred, Florida, 4 sisters Judy Nemcek, Little Falls, Lucille Bruce and her husband Sheldon, Vermont, Arlene Pugliese, Utica and Dorothy Scanlon, Herkimer, 13 grandchildren Joseph, Jr., Jason and Justin Pendolf, Joe Paracka, Sara, John III and Shannon Grainer, Jacob Bennett, Vincent and Johanna Grainer, Richard, Jr. and Ryan Grainer and Shohna Grainer, 4 great grandchildren Cory and Blake Grainer, Kyle Paracka and Jade Pendolf and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 brothers Gerald Grainer, Glen (Pete) Grainer and Francis (Red) Grainer.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at 10:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Donald L. Dixon, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills in the spring.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Monday, January 10, 2005 from 5-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Tuesday morning.
