Obituary of June K. Champion

LITTLE FALLS June K. Champion, 88 of 5304 State Route 167, Little Falls and since 2005 a resident of the Residential Healthcare Facility at Little Falls Hospital passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008 at that residence with her loving family at her side. She was born on May 31, 1920 in Little Falls the daughter of the late Otto and Olga (Jones) Kaufman. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School and Syracuse Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was united in marriage to her husband of 66 years David J. Champion on February 14, 1942 in Little Falls. Mrs. Champion was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Little Falls. She was an active member of the Little Falls Hospital Guild for many years and the WCA, Little Falls Mrs. Champion was employed at one time as a Registered Nurse at Little Falls Hospital. She was also employed in that same capacity for a brief time at St. Francis Hospital, Miami Beach, FL. A devoted wife mother, grandmother and great grandmother June was a talented cook and loved being surrounded by her family. Thus began the tradition of gathering for Sunday dinners at the family home outside Little Falls or in the summer at their camp on Pleasant Lake, where the fruits of her labor were thoroughly enjoyed. She is survived by her husband David, 4 daughters Donna Polnak and her husband Joseph, Little Falls, Linda Pasquale and her husband David, Little Falls, Nancy Champion, New Hartford, Patricia Dykeman, Binghamton, a brother James E. Kaufman and his wife Ruby, Clarksville, TN, 10 grandchildren Charles Stahl and his wife Michele, David Stahl and his wife Lisa, Jacqueline Van Slyke and her husband Anthony, Timothy Stahl, Jeffrey Pasquale, Terri Scaparo and her husband Steve, Christopher Pasquale and his wife Heather, Erin McMahon and her husband Bryan, Joseph Polnak and his wife Kathryn and Denise Hingre and her husband Daniel, 14 great grandchildren Charles and Chance Stahl, Andrew and Erika Van Slyke, Ethan and Lindsey Scaparo, Gabriella Pasquale, Sophia Clark, Michael, Joseph and Nicholas Polnak, Alyssa, Sarah and Jaclyn Hingre, a sister in law Evelyn Viskup, South Burlington, VT and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son David J. Champion, who died in 1946. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. There are no calling hours. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Champion be considered to the Residential Healthcare Facility at Little Falls Hospital, 140 Burwell St., Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose. The family would like to thank Dr. Norman Freund and the staff of the Residential Healthcare Facility for the kindness, excellent care and compassion shown to Mrs. Champion and her family over the past several years. The family also extends their appreciation for the guidance and support provided in the recent months by Hospice.
