Obituary of Larry R. Rockwell, Sr

LITTLE FALLS Larry R. Rockwell, Sr., 69 of the Bronner Road, Little Falls passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown following a brief illness. He was born on December 18, 1943 in Little Falls the son of the late Kenneth and Lucille (Rice) Rockwell. He was educated in Herkimer and Little Falls Schools. He was united in marriage to his wife of 48 years the former Sharon E. Steciak on July 3, 1964 at the First Baptist Church Parsonage, Little Falls by the Rev. Frederick Thorne. Mr. Rockwell was a member and past president of the Producers Co-Op, Dolgeville, a member of the National Farmers Organization (NFO), the Sprite Club where he served on the Board of Directors at onetime, Salisbury Ridge Runners Club and the Dolgeville Rod & Gun Club. He enjoyed bowling on the Monday Night League at Gorge View Lanes, Little Falls and belong to golf leagues in Little Falls, Herkimer and Ilion. An avid hunter and fisherman he especially enjoyed fishing on the St. Lawrence River. He and Sharon also enjoyed traveling the United States visiting the National Parks and seeing Alaska and Hawaii. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. Mr. Rockwell was the owner and operator of the family dairy farm Cathatachua Farms on the Davis Road in the Town of Manheim for 42 years, retiring in 2008. After his retirement he began operating his own saw mill "The Bronner Road Band Mill." He is survived by his wife Sharon, his son Larry R. Rockwell, Jr., Little Falls, his daughter Stacy McCarthy, Little Falls, his brother Kenneth A. Rockwell, Ilion, five grandchildren Sierra Paige McCarthy, Sydney Morgan McCarthy, Madison Elaine Rockwell, Tanner Edward Rockwell and Tucker Robert Rockwell, a niece and four nephews and his canine companion Norman. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 10:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Donald L. Dixon, Pastor Emeritus of the First Baptist Church, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in Salisbury Rural Cemetery, Town of Salisbury. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Monday, April 29, 2013 from 5-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Tuesday morning. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Rockwell be considered to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 7, East Syracuse, NY 13057. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
