Obituary of Leonard O. Mosher

LITTLE FALLS Leonard O. (Duke) Mosher, 84 of 3696 State Route 167, Little Falls passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Syracuse, where he had been a patient since May 24, 2008. He was born on September 29, 1923 in Little Falls the son of the late Dayton O. and Caroline (Hanney) Mosher. He was educated in Little Falls Schools. He was united in marriage to his wife of 61 years the former Sophia Bednarski on April 5, 1947 in the Town of Danube. Mrs. Mosher predeceased him on April 30, 2008. Mr. Mosher was a proud veteran of World War II serving with the US Army. He entered the service on February 23, 1943 in Utica. He served with the 3730th Quartermaster Truck Co. in Central Burma India. He was honorably discharged as a Technician Fifth Grade on December 11, 1945 at Ft. Dix, NJ. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 31, Little Falls. He was an avid card player and over the years belonged to several bowling leagues. He was also a member of the Charlie Wooster Club during the Little Falls Bicentennial Celebration. He found great joy in always having his family together especially during the holidays and for Sunday dinners and card games, he also enjoyed tending to his garden and yard at his home and spending time with his friends at Ed & Buds. Mr. Mosher operated the family dairy farm in Van Hornesville for many years. He was also employed at onetime by the former Brown Bros. Coal & Oil Co., Little Falls. He later was employed by the former Allegro Shoe Corp., Little Falls and was employed until his retirement in 1993 by the former Daniel Green Co., Dolgeville. He is survived 5 sons Barry Haggerty, Little Falls, Richard B. Mosher and his wife Mary, Indian Castle, Leonard Mosher, Little Falls, Timothy Mosher and his wife Jill, Little Falls and Dayton Mosher and his wife Felicia, Newville, 2 daughters Laurie Florian and her companion JR Kimbrell, Little Falls and Christy Corso and her companion William Smith, Oppenheim, a brother Edward Mosher, Ilion, 2 sisters Gertrude Grescheck and her husband Anthony, Jordanville and Shirley Smith and her husband Joseph, Florida, 14 grandchildren Cara Mosher and her companion Anthony Boepple, Alecia Sohns and her husband Matthew, Amy Mosher, Brian Mosher, Shelley LaPorta and her husband Corey, Stacey Palmer and her husband Donald, Scott Florian, Traci Gardinier and her husband John, Trisha Mosher, Teresa Mosher and her fiancé© Justin Battisti, Jessica Mosher, Anthony Corso, Brittany Corso and Donald (DJ) Jasewicz, 6 great grandchildren Anthony LaPorta, Adrianna Sohns, Madison Battisti, Kiaira Florian, Savannah Florian and Sean Gardinier, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Patricia Mosher on October 21, 1948, a brother Wallace Moshier on September 29, 2005 and by a sister Emma Singer on April 6, 1998. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 6:00 pm from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with his niece the Rev. Theresa Grescheck, Pastor of the Paines Hollow United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will take place in the Ostrander Cemetery, Town of Danube at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 from 3-6 pm and to attend the funeral services to follow. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Mosher be considered to the, Paines Hollow United Methodist Church, c/o Patricia Esford, 1 ward St, Ilion, NY 13357 or to Hospice Care Inc. 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose. Members of the American Legion Post # 31, Little Falls will call in a body at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 5:45 pm to conduct services in honor of Mr. Mosher
