Obituary of Louis P. Gerdin

LITTLE FALLS Louis P. Gerdin, 88 of 562 Garden Street, Little Falls passed away Friday, March 13, 2009 at the Little Falls Hospital. He was born on November 23, 1920 in Little Falls the son of the late John and Josephine (Govek) Gerdin. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School. Mr. Gerdin was a veteran of World War II, serving with the US Navy. Entering the service on July 24, 1942 in Albany. He was honorably discharged as a Aviation Electricians Mate First Class on December 22, 1945 at Lido Beach, LI, NY. He was united in marriage to the former Ellen Wing on April 26, 1952 at the First Presbyterian Church, Little Falls. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Little Falls and served on numerous church committees. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge # 42, B.P.O.E, Little Falls, the Dolgeville Rod & Gun Club and the former Little Falls Masonic Lodge # 181, F&AM, Little Falls. Louis was also an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and bowler. He enjoyed antique cars and restoration, especially the time he spent on his own 1926 Rolls Royce and 1941 Cadillac Fleetwood Sedan. Mr. Gerdin was employed as an Engineer for the former Cherry Burrell Corp., Little Falls. He is survived by his wife Ellen, four daughters Nancy Moore-Beeman, Ithaca, Jean Race, NJ, Gail Gerdin, S. Dakota and Ann Tomei, Little Falls, six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six brothers Joseph D. Gerdin, John A. Gerdin, Harold R. Gerdin, Henry Gerdin, William Gerdin and Frank Gerdin and by two sisters Emma Gerdin and Florence Reyome. A private family memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. There are no calling hours.
