Obituary of Margaret (Maver) Sperbeck
LITTLE FALLS - Margaret (Maver) Sperbeck, 84, a long time resident of Little Falls, NY, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Saturday October 27, 2007 at Little Falls Hospital.
Margaret was born in Forest City, PA, on Sept. 2 1923, daughter of the late Julia and Valentine Maver. She moved to Little Falls, NY and graduated from Little Falls High School in 1942, and then the Faxton School of Nursing in 1946. Although she only worked as a Registered Nurse for a short time at Little Falls Hospital, in heart she was always a very proud RN.
On June 26, 1947 she was united in marriage to her husband of 50 years Harold Olin Sperbeck, at St. Mary's Church, Little Falls. He predeceased her on May 31, 1996.
Margaret was an active member of the Little Falls Historical Society for many years. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Red Cross Blood Drives. Margaret had several hobbies, including being an avid gardener, talented knitter and excellent cook.
She was a warm hearted and devoted mother and grandmother, and greatly loved by her daughters and their families. An additional important part of her life was the wonderful and mutual friendship she enjoyed with her neighbors. She also had many community friends with whom she kept in frequent contact.
She is survived by her daughters, Elaine Sperbeck, Cairo, NY and Janice Sperbeck Bretscher, her son-in law Anthony Bretscher, Ithaca, NY, two grand-daughters, Heidi and Erika Bretscher, sister Emma Lovrin, brother-in-law Ed Lovrin, Little Falls, sister-in-law Agnes Maver, Connecticut and many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Margaret's wishes services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills.
Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Margaret be considered to the Margaret Sperbeck Memorial Scholarship Fund, for a student pursuing a career in nursing., c/o Little Falls City Schools, 15 Petrie Street, Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
