Obituary of Martin E. Welpe

LITTLE FALLS Martin E. Welpe, 42 of Little Falls passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Sunday, April 7, 2013. He was born on October 12, 1970 in Little Falls the son of Robert F. Welpe and the late Marilyn (Daly) Welpe. Martin was a graduate of Little Falls High School class of 1988. He was also a graduate of Herkimer County Community College, Utica College of Syracuse University and received his Masters Degree in Instructional Design, Development and Evaluation (IDD&E) Education from Syracuse University. He was a member of the Holy Family Parish Church, Little Falls. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #42 B.P.O.E., Little Falls, where he was a past secretary, and a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Little Falls. Martin was the chairman of the Mathematics Department at Little Falls High School. He was well known by the students and staff as a man who truly enjoyed teaching, especially advanced placement math. He also served at one time as a adjunct professor at Herkimer County Community College. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling in the Friday Night League at the Gorge View Lanes, Little Falls, gardening, cooking and his family camp at White Lake in Woodgate. He was always busy with household repairs and carpentry projects, and willing to help his neighbors with whatever they needed. He is survived by his father Robert F. Welpe, Little Falls, his brothers Timothy Welpe and his wife Mary Evans-Welpe, Potsdam, and Thomas Welpe and his wife Monica Famolaro Welpe, Utica, his sister Eileen Welpe, Little Falls, nieces and nephews Johanna Evans-Welpe, Jacklyn Evans-Welpe, Joely Welpe and Raequon Strickland, his aunts Helen Daly, Little Falls, and Judith (Donald) Ropeter, Palm Bay, FL and many cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Marilyn on January 9, 2007. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 9:30 am from the Holy Family Parish Church, Corner of Main & John Streets, Little Falls where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Lawless. Interment will take place in St. Marys Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 5-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Thursday morning. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Martin be considered to the Martin E. Welpe Scholarship, c/o Little Falls City Schools, 1 Ward Square, Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
