Obituary of Mary Van Slyke

LITTLE FALLS - Mary T. Van Slyke, 89 formerly of 363 W. Main Street, Little Falls and since July 3, 2002 a resident of the Van Allen Nursing Home, Little Falls passed away on Monday, April 5, 2004 at Little Falls where she had been a patient since April 2, 2004. She was born on February 21, 1915 in Little Falls the daughter of the late Humphrey and Catherine (Clark) Donnelly. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy, Little Falls class of 1933. She was united in marriage to her husband of 47 years Charles A. Van Slyke on November 21, 1934 at St. Mary's Church Parish House, Little Falls. Mr. Van Slyke predeceased her on May 31, 1981. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish of Little Falls and the Rosarians of that church. She was also a member of the Manheim Homemakers and a local Bible study group and was an avid bowler. Mrs. Van Slyke was employed in the packing department of the Salada Foods Co., Little Falls retiring in 1977. She also served as the first matron of the Little Falls Police Dept. from 1948 - 1971. She is survived by her son Charles N. Van Slyke and his wife Gloria, Palmyra, VA, 2 daughters Mary Ann Looman, Schenectady and Katherine Haberek and her husband Charles, Little Falls, a brother Bernard Donnelly and his wife Jean, Latham, a sister Elizabeth Mosher and her husband Lester, Baldwinsville, 12 grandchildren Douglas Van Slyke, David Van Slyke and his wife Bridget, James Van Slyke, Gregory Van Slyke and his wife Laray, Laura Mayo and her husband James, Jeffrey Looman, Maria Ward and her husband Walter, Colleen Seidel and her husband Matthew, Erin Looman and Sal, Christian Boepple and Amanda, Eric Boepple, and Timothy Boepple, 19 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her canine companion Buddy. She was predeceased by 2 brothers Joseph Donnelly, who died on January 27, 1989, and her twin brother Miles Donnelly, who died on January 28, 1992, and by a sister Ann Ade, who died on January 11, 2003. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at 4:00 pm from the Holy Family Parish Church, Cor. of Main & John Str's, Little Falls where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls on Wednesday evening following the funeral mass from 7-9 pm. Prayer services will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2004 at 11:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc. with Sister Marilyn Hayes, CSJ offering prayer. Procession will follow to St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Van Slyke be considered to the Holy Family Parish Church, 763 E. Main St., Little Falls, NY 13365 or to the Herkimer Co. Humane Society, P.O. Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
