Obituary of Michael (Mitch) Walach
LITTLE FALLS Michael (Mitch) Walach 96 a life long Little Falls resident and for the past several years a resident of Claxton Manor, Herkimer passed away Sunday, July 12, 2009 at St. Elizabeths Medical Center, Utica.
He was born on August 27, 1912 in Little Falls the son of the late Simon and Suzanna (Duroska) Walach. He was educated in Little Falls schools.
He was united in marriage to his wife of 67 years the former Bernice Mulick on September 27, 1941 at Scared Heart Church, Little Falls.
Mr. Walach was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Navy. He entered the service on June 4, 1943 serving in the Pacific and European Theaters. He was honorably discharged as a Gunners Mate Third Class on November 4, 1945.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls. As well as a member of the S/Sgt. Steve Stefula Post # 4612 VFW, Little Falls, an over 50 year member of the Little Falls and later Dolgeville Masonic Lodges F&AM, and a charter member of the United Polka League. Both he and his wife Bernice were avid golfers playing in various single and couple leagues over the years as well as attending and teaching Polka Dances in the valley area. They also enjoyed spending there summer months at their home at Half Moon Beach on Piseco Lake.
Mr. Walach was employed at onetime by the former National Automotive Fibers Co., Little Falls and later retiring from the Remington Arms Co., Ilion after 30 years of service.
He is survived by his wife Bernice, his daughter and son in law Joan and Clarence Kohn, Little Falls, 2 grandchildren Michael Kohn and his wife Heather, Little Falls and Michele Baker and her husband Maurice, Hinesberg, VT, 2 great granddaughters Jordan Kohn and Madeline Baker and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 4 brothers Simon Walach Jr. in 1985, John Walach in 1993, Paul Walach in 1996 and Stephen in 2005.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 10:00 am from the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 E. Gansevoort St., Little Falls. Interment will take place in St. Marys Cemetery, Town of Herkimer where full military honors will be accorded.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 from 5-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Wednesday morning.
