Robert E. Mowers
SALISBURY CENTER - Robert E. Mowers, 69 of 208 Plant Road, Salisbury Center passed away Friday, December 9, 2005 at Little Falls Hospital from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.
He was born on November 29, 1936 in the Town of Salisbury. The son of the late Frank B. and Louisa Mae (Cool) Mowers. He was a graduate of Stratford High School class of 1954.
He was united in marriage to the former Irene E. Lanphere on April 12, 1958 at the Dolgeville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Mowers predeceased him on August 29, 1996.
He was a member of NY Army National Guard, serving with the 727th Armd. Ord. Battalion. He was honorably discharged on May 7, 1958.
He was a member of the Salisbury Center Unitarian Universalist Church. As well as a member of the Sprite Club, Dolgeville Rod & Gun Club, Little Falls American Legion Post # 31, Hilltop Vol. Fire Dept. and the Salisbury Vol. Fire Dept. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, traveling throughout the United States and Canada hunting and fishing.
Mr. Mowers was employed by the state of New York beginning his career in 1969 with the Dept. of Transportation as a truck driver. He later transferred to the Dept. of Canals where he was employed as a welder until his retirement in 1990.
He is survived by 2 sons Gary R. Mowers and his wife Michelle and Brett W. Mowers and Lorraine Johnson, all of Salisbury Center, a daughter Tanya S. Vickers and her husband David, Salisbury Center, a brother Dean F. Mowers, Salisbury Corners, 2 sisters Pauline Knapp and her husband Thurman, Dolgeville and Marcia Cigale and her husband Edward, Little Falls, 5 grandchildren Kristie Mowers and her companion Craig Dager, Kurtis Mowers and his wife Cassandra, Kelly Mowers and her fiancé© Neil Purpura, Jr., Kristen Mowers and Kayleigh Mowers, 2 great grandchildren Connor and Cameron Dager and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a great grandson Zachary Purpura on June 15, 2005.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at 7:00 pm from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. Interment will take place in Curtis Cemetery, Town of Salisbury in the spring.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 from 4-7pm and to attend the funeral services to follow.
