Obituary of Muriel H. Dodge

DOLGEVILLE - Muriel H. Dodge, 86 of 139 Lotville Road, Dolgeville passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at the Residential Healthcare Facility at Little Falls Hospital where she had been a resident for the past few weeks. She was born on March 4, 1922 in Martinsburg, NY the daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth (Damuth) Hanno. She graduated from Lowville Academy and attended the Utica School of Commerce. She was united in marriage to her husband of 43 years Wilson G. Dodge on February 19, 1965 in Khartoum, Sudan, Africa. Upon returning to Dolgeville in April 1965 the couple purchased their home on the Lotville Road. Mrs. Dodge was a member of the Dolgeville United Methodist Church. As well as a member of the Hilltop Vol. Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary, an officer of the Dolgeville Athletic Association (Hilltop Field), a 40 year member of the Auskerada Maquaes Rock City Chapter # 204 OES, Dolgeville and served on the Fulton County Board of Elections for many years. She and her husband Wilson owned several camps at Brantingham Lake where they spent their weekends for many years. She always enjoyed having their many friends and family visit their camp on the weekends. Muriel traveled with her husband whenever possible while he was working construction. She enjoyed reading, playing scrabble, caring for her pets and going out to dinner with friends and family. Mrs. Dodge was employed as an accountant for the J. W. Ross Co., Lowville, Greenburg & Winer Agency, Utica and the Hopson, Luther and Harper Agency, Dolgeville. She also kept the books for her husbands construction business. She is survived by her husband Wilson, a sister Mary Lou Penner and her husband Ralph, Chittenango, a nephew Thomas Penner and his children Emily and Jonathan, Saco, Maine, 2 brothers in law Robert Dodge and his wife Judy, Dolgeville and William Dodge and his wife Linda, Clifton Springs, NY, her sister in law Ruth Thompson and her husband Gerald, Dolgeville, several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews as well as her loving dog Snooper and her cat and kittens. She was predeceased by her stepmother Caroline Hanno. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 5, 2009 at 1:00 pm from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc, 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with Pastor Gertrude Ortlieb of the Inghams Mills Baptist Church officiating. Interment will take place in Dolgeville Cemetery, Dolgeville in the spring. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Monday, January 5, 2009 from 11-1 pm and to attend the funeral services to follow. Members of the Auskerada Maquaes Rock City Chapter# 204 OES will call in a body at the funeral home on Monday afternoon at 12:30 pm to conduct their ritualistic services. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Dodge be considered to the Little Falls Hospital, 140 Burwell St., Little Falls, NY 13365 Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nursing staff of Little Falls Hospital for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Mrs. Dodge and her family.
