Obituary of Philip Dahlia

DOLGEVILLE Philip G. Dahlia, 63 of 6 Poplar Street, Dolgeville passed away unexpectedly Friday, August 13, 2010 at Little Falls Hospital after being stricken at home. He was born on September 15, 1946 in Peekskill, NY the son of the late Theodore Winship and the late Aurora (Sorano) Winship Blakeslee. He was a graduate of Dolgeville High School class of 1966 and he later attended the Utica School of Commerce. Mr. Dahlia was united in marriage to his wife of 34 years the former Cheryl R. Johnson on July 3, 1976 at the First Baptist Church, Little Falls by the Rev. Frederick Thorne. He was a veteran of the US Air Force entering the service in 1966. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on February 6, 1970. Mr. Dahlia served as Mayor of the Village of Dolgeville from 1993 - 1999. During his tenure he was able to secure the grant funding for the construction of the Village Water Treatment Facility and was instrumental in developing an international student exchange program with Japan in conjunction with Herkimer County Community College. He was also a charter member of the Dolgeville Lions Club. For 25 years he owned and operated Dahlias Gas and Tire Station in Dolgeville and also Car-Phil Auto Sales with his business partner and friend Carl Marucci. He was later employed as the operations manager for APAC Customer Services, Utica for several years. He was presently employed as the manager for Faber Gift Stores on the NYS Thruway, Schuyler. A beloved wonderful husband and amazing father his presence will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him. His ability to put a smile on the face of all he met was one of his best known gifts. Along with his strong love of life and his true caring spirit for his family and friends brought him the greatest joy in his life. He is survived by his wife Cheryl, his two daughters Stephanie Perkins and her husband Craig, East Windsor, CT and Alison Bosco and her husband John, Enfield, CT, two grandchildren Brenna Perkins and Jack Bosco. his uncle and aunt Philip and Betty Sorano, Dolgeville and his aunt Rebecca Pelosi, Amsterdam. Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial services to be held on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 11:00 am at the Grace Baptist Church, 12 Van Buren Street, Dolgeville with the Rev. Lenny Byerly, Pastor officiating. Final interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. There are no calling hours. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Dahlia be considered to the American Heart Association, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
