Obituary of Rowland (Ron) M. Calhoun, Sr

FORT PLAIN Rowland (Ron) M. Calhoun, Sr., 73 of 625 Fords Bush Road, Fort Plain passed away Saturday, July 31, 2010 at his residence surrounded by his loving friends and family and his wife by his side right until his passing. He was born on February 20, 1937 in Utica the son of Ruth (Willoughby) Calhoun Hulbert of Fort Plain and the late Millard Calhoun. He was educated in Ilion schools. He was united in marriage to his wife of 46 years of the former Susan E. Miller on October 12, 1963 at the United Methodist Church, Dolgeville. An avid fisherman and gardener he also enjoyed cooking for his family and friends. Mr. Calhoun along with his wife worked for American Homes as a truck driver for several years and later purchased his own truck and went into his own business as Ron and Sue's Trucking Co. out of Fort Plain. He was vice president of the company and still was leased to American Homes until 1997. He retired from that same capacity from the Wesley Dibble Trucking Co., in the Town of Minden He is survived by his mother Ruth Hulbert, Ft. Plain, his wife Susan, 2 sons Ronald R. (Dawn) Calhoun, Ilion and David W. Calhoun and his companion Shari Taylor, Poland, 2 daughters Shelly (Richard) Crews, Ft. Plain and Sheila Bernier, Herkimer, a step brother James Farley, Ilion, 3 step Sisters Mary Sangenetti, Herkimer, Jeannie Wilson, Ilion, Peggy Orendorf, Ilion, a half sister Cindy Griegler, Rome, 10 grandchildren Kyle Calhoun, Korie Calhoun, Dominick Calhoun, Salvatore Calhoun, Codi Calhoun, Brett Calhoun, Ryan Calhoun, Amber Coe, Ben Crews, John Crews and his wife Sara and his special angel Alicia Bernier, his great granddaughter Gabriella Lynn Calhoun, 2 special god children Jeffrey Miller and his companion Karen Rodriguez and their children James Miller, Morgan and Melissa and Liz Petkovsek and her companion Wayne Lynch and their children Taylor and Lyndsey Petkovsek, his brothers and sisters in law, several nieces, nephews and cousins along with his many friends, extended family and his dog angel and his cats Patches and Freckles aka/Cujo. Graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 10:00 am at Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer with the Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia, Rector of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls officiating. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Calhoun be considered to the family, co Mrs. Susan Calhoun, 625 Fords Bush Road, Ft. Plain, NY 13339. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose. The family wish to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Butala and staff, Dr. Lawrence and the Radiation Staff, Dr. Love and Central Cardiology Staff, Dr. Perlanski and Dr. Max for all of their kindness and compassion shown to Mr. Calhoun and his family and a special thank you to Mt. Valley Hospice and his very special nurse Robin Jusenius.
