Obituary of Rhoda R. Wilson

LITTLE FALLS - Rhoda R. Wilson, 100 formerly of 32 Salisbury Street, Little Falls, New York and since November 13, 1997 a resident of Van Allen Nursing Home, Little Falls passed away peacefully on Monday, December 13, 2004. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Bertha Tubbs Reese. Rhoda was born on September 2, 1904, and was educated in Little Falls Schools, and continued her education at the Utica School of Commerce. She worked as a legal secretary for Bronner and Ward; for both James C. Bronner and also Edmund A. McCarthy for many years, including after her retirement. Rhoda was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls and served for many years with the Alter Guild at that church and also served as treasurer for some time. Rhoda had a deep love for animals; she would always feed and take care of the stray cats that would come to her side door, often taking one in as her own. She was married to Virgil J. Wilson who preceded her in death in 1978. She was preceded in death also by her son, Roger A. Wilson, Little Falls. Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis W. Taylor, wife of Arthur M. Taylor; three grandchildren, David A. Taylor, whom, along with his life partner, Richard L. Vogt, saw to Rhoda's needs both before and when she was no longer able to care for herself; Peter A. Taylor, all of Little Falls; Susan A. McLain of Newport, Oregon; and two great-grandchildren. Rhoda was the great-great granddaughter of Daniel Connor, who purchased Herkimer Homestead in 1835 and occupied it until the 1860s. During this time he constructed a piazza on the front of the main house, raised the gambrel roof and added the Greek revival cornice and narrow windows (which are now covered) near the roof line. He also preserved the interior of the two front rooms, finishing them in panel work and plastering the brick walls. In keeping with the wishes of Rhoda, there will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family at the General Herkimer Homestead Cemetery, town of Danube, with Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia Rector of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church officiating. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls.
