Obituary of Richard F. Irving

LITTLE FALLS - Richard F. Irving, 84 of 637 E. John St., (Academy Apt.'s), Little Falls passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at Little Falls Hospital. He was born on June 6, 1923 in Little Falls the son of the late Frederick and Hildred (Greene) Irving. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School class of 1941 as well as a graduate of Syracuse University with a degree in Engineering. He was united in marriage to the former Mildred Whitcomb on May 30, 1975 at the United Methodist Church, Little Falls. Mr. Irving was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army Air Corps. He entered the service on July 1, 1942 in Albany. He served with the 21st Photo Reconnaissance Squadron in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on December 14, 1945 at Ft. Dix, NJ. He was of the Universalist faith. He was a member of the Dolgeville - Little Falls Masonic Lodge # 796 F&AM. At onetime he served as Master of the Little Falls Masonic Lodge # 181, F&AM and served as an Grand Lodge Officer. He was also past Patron of the Rock City Chapter # 272, OES, Little Falls and was a member of the Ziyara Temple of the Shrine AAONMS, Utica. He and his wife Mildred enjoyed the summer months at their camp at Bonnie Brae on Piseco Lake. Mr. Irving was employed as an Engineer. Serving in that capacity in the early years of the development of the NYS Thruway and later for the St. Lawrence Seaway project. He was last employed for over 30 years as an Engineer by the NYS Dept. of Parks and Recreation in the Western New York Region. He is survived by his wife Mildred, 2 sons Robert Irving and his wife Louise, Perry, NY and Richard Irving, Binghamton, NY, 2 daughters Mary Irving, Boulder, CO, and Lisa Ramirez and her husband James, San Diego, CA, a step son Gordon (Kip) Garlock and his wife Patricia, Mohawk, 2 step daughters Sandra McKenney and her husband David Sherburne, NY and Ellen Goff and her husband Gene, Vermontville, NY, a sister Dr. Mary K. Irving, MD, Little Falls, 9 grandchildren Nichole Irving, Perry, NY, Monica Irving, Florida, Phillip Gilmore, California, Chad D. Garlock, Mohawk, Cheryl McKenney, Jean McKenney, both of Sherburne, NY, Myra Beth McKenney, California, Sara Glaneuski and her husband Jason, Stoughton, MA, Marla Wolter and her husband Tim, Bloomingdale, NY and Bruce Goff, Vermontville, NY and 4 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a granddaughter Davina Stapleton, who died on August 6, 2005. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 10:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia, Rector of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Friday, June 8, 2007 from 5-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Saturday morning. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Irving be considered to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
