Obituary of Robert E. Jones Sr
LITTLE FALLS - Robert E. Jones Sr., 82, formerly of 1 Arthur St., Little Falls, passed away Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at the Heritage Healthcare Center, Little Falls.
He was born March 13, 1922, in Little Falls, the son of the late Howard and Mary (Kane) Jones. He was educated at Little Falls High School. He was united in marriage to his wife of 51 years, the former Helen Greszczuk (Grescheck) on Oct. 30, 1948, at St. Mary's Church, Little Falls. Mrs. Jones predeceased him on July 16, 1999.
Mr. Jones was a member of the Holy Family Parish of Little Falls. He was co-founder and past treasurer of the Little Falls Pop Warner Football League, a member of the Little Falls Varsity Club, active in CYO Basketball and a member of the East Caroga Lake Protection Association.
He was employed for 38 years as a wheel truer for the former H.P. Snyder Manufacturing Co., Little Falls, until its closing. He was then employed for several years as a machine operator for the Remington Arms Co., Ilion, retiring in 1982.
Mr. Jones especially enjoyed spending time with his family at his summer home on East Caroga Lake.
He is survived by a son, Richard D. Jones, Whitesboro; a daughter, Ann Marie Starring and her husband Jeffrey, Van Hornesville; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Jones, Ilion; seven grandchildren, Kevin Jones, Catskill, Gregory Jones and Sara DeRosa, Utica, David Jones, Newport, Jacqueline Fairbrother and her husband David, Utica, Mary, Bobbi and Andrew Starring, all of Van Hornesville; a great-grandson, Eric Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Robert E. Jones Jr., who died March 28, 2004; a brother, Frederick Jones, who died Oct. 14, 1999; and by a sister, Gertrude Grant, who died July 2, 1990.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 7, at 11:30 a.m. from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home Inc., 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls and at noon from the Holy Family Parish Church, at the corner of Main and John streets, Little Falls, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Anthony Ligato. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Wednesday, Oct. 6, from 5-8 p.m. and to attend the funeral services Thursday morning.
