Russell Smith LITTLE FALLS - Russell Smith, 76 of 544 E. Main Street, Little Falls passed away Friday, August 15, 2003 at the Van Allen Nursing Home, Little Falls where he had been a resident since August 12, 2003. He was born on September 28, 1926 in Little Falls and was educated in Little Falls Schools. He was united in marriage to the former Minnie J. Doxstader on September 8, 1984 in Caroga Lake. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the US Army entering the service on May 7, 1945 in Albany he served during World War II and the Korean War. Mr. Smith ended his military career on January 26, 1967 with over 20 years of active duty and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant from the Headquarters Co., A., 707th Maintenance Battalion of the 7th Infantry Division at Camp Casey, Korea. Following his military service he was employed at onetime by the Little Falls Hospital and the Green Thumb Program.. He was last employed for 15 years in the packing department of the former Daniel Green Co., Dolgeville. Mr. Smith was a former member of the American Legion Post # 31, Little Falls and the S/Sgt. Steve Stefula Post # 4612, V.F.W., Little Falls. He is survived by his wife Minnie, a son Robert Smith and his wife Jerilyn, California, a daughter Dr. Mary Phillips, M.D., and her husband Richard, Moorehead, Kentucky, a step son Arthur Benedict, Little Falls, a brother Charles Smith and his wife Pat, Little Falls, a sister Geraldine Walrath and her husband David, Little Falls, 3 granddaughters Sarah and Casey Phillips and Amber Smith and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at 10:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, with the Rev. Carl Evans, Pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Tuesday, August 19, 2003 from 5-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Wednesday morning. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Smith be considered to a charity of one's choice. Envelopes will be available and the funeral home for this purpose. The family would like to the thank the staff of the Van Allen Nursing Home for all of their help, kindness and compassion shown to Mr. Smith and his family.
