Obituary of Spruce Lake-

Francis J. Serow Spruce Lake- Francis J. Serow, 87 formerly of 119 Fish and Game Road, Little Falls passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at the Loretto Utica Center. He was born April 11, 1915 in Oswego, NY the son of the late Francis and Maud (Salisburg) Serow. He was a gradate of Ilion High School. Mr. Serow was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army. Entering the service on May 25, 1943 in Utica. He served with the 9301st Technical Service Unit, Ordnance Detachment, where he specialized in small arms weapons machinery and received qualifications in marksmanship with many different weapons. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant on April 5, 1946 at Fort George G. Meade, Maryland. Mr. Serow was employed at Remington Arms as a inspector until April 23, 1961 where he retired after 20 years. He also worked at Rawlings in Dolgeville for a few years and enjoyed helping at Johns Sport Shop in Little Falls, where his son was owner. Mr. Serow enjoyed sports especially football and basketball. He coached little league, minor league baseball and pop warner football. He was on the board of directors of pop warner and was the Little Falls little league secretary in 1960. He was also a referee for basketball for many years throughout the valley. He loved the outdoors especially the Adirondacks where he had camps at Pleasant and Piseco Lakes. He served as a life guard in the Adirondacks as a young man for many years and as an older man taught his sons to hunt, fish and enjoy the outdoors. He was always ready to give a helping hand building his sons homes. He enjoyed golfing and having breakfast with his friends. He was the happiest watching his grandsons play football. He is survived by his son Stephen Serow and his wife Lorraine of Spruce Lake, daughter-in-law Linda Serow of Little Falls, 2 grandsons Stephen and Joshua Serow, 3 granddaughters Sherri Gressler, Patricia Bazzano and Christina Sullivan, 2 Great Grandsons Jonathan Sterusky and Jeremiah Perkins and 2 Great Granddaughters Patricia Sullivan and Shantel Williams. He was predeceased by his son John Serow and one sister Elizabeth Morgan. Services and interment will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. There are no calling hours. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Serow considered to the Alzheimer's Association, Central New York Chapter, 441 West Kirkpatrick Street, Syracuse, NY 13204 envelopes are available at the funeral home for this purpose. The family would like to say a special thank you to Judy Crossett for all her care and compassion to them and to Mr. Serow in their time of need.
