Elberta A. Stever
ILION - Elberta A. Stever, 66 of 266 E. Clark Street, Ilion passed away Thursday, October 20, 2005 at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital, New Hartford.
She was born on October 12, 1939 in Portville, NY the daughter of Gladys I. (Pangburn) Thornton, Ilion and the late Elbert A. Thornton. She was a graduate of Mohawk High School Class of 1957 and received her teaching certificate from Herkimer Co. Community College.
She was united in marriage to Bernard M. Stever on March 12, 1960 in Jordanville. Mr. Stever predeceased her on January 26, 1998.
She was an active member of the Paines Hollow United Methodist Church. As well as a member of Club 57 made up of her classmates from Mohawk High School. She also enjoyed reading and writing poetry and had successfully had a poem published.
A beloved mother and grandmother her family always came first. She was active in the Mohawk High School Wrestling Booster Club and her grandchildren's soccer teams. Logging many miles around the state and country. Having traveled to Belgium, Europe with two of her grandchildren who played soccer.
Mrs. Stever was employed as a substitute teacher for various schools in the area.
She is survived by her mother Gladys I. Thornton of the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion, 4 sons Rex Darling, Herkimer, Ted B. Stever and his wife Patricia, Mohawk, John H. Stever and his wife Nora, Mohawk and Joseph M. Stever and Angela, Ilion, a daughter Shelly Seifried and Jon Bly, Herkimer, 2 brothers Clair A. Thornton and his wife Margaret, Mohawk and Allen N. Thornton and his wife Mary Ann, Frankfort, 4 sisters Patricia Taylor and her husband Joseph, N. Carolina, Lenna Burritt and her husband Kenneth, Oneonta, Gloria Wisenburn and her husband George, Ilion and Georgia Nelson, N. Carolina, 12 grandchildren, a great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2005 at 7:00 pm from the Paines Hollow United Methodist Church, Cor. of State Route 167 & State Route 168 (Creek Rd.), Town of German Flatts with the Rev. Roger Klossner, Pastor officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Paines Hollow United Methodist Church on Monday, October 24, 2005 from 6-7pm and to attend the memorial services to follow.
