Obituary of Teresa McEvoy Scanlon
LITTLE FALLS - Teresa McEvoy Scanlon, 88 of 763 Burt Road, Little Falls passed away Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Little Falls Hospital where she had been a patient since July 3.
She was born on August 13, 1920 in Herkimer, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Murphy) McEvoy. She graduated from St. Francis de Sales and from Herkimer High School as the Salutatorian. She was also a graduate of the New York State Teachers College at Oneonta.
She was united in marriage to her husband of 55 years, Edward R. Scanlon, on December 26, 1953 at St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer. Mr. Scanlon predeceased her on November 1, 2008.
Mrs. Scanlon taught school for several years in Waterville and Little Falls before starting her family in 1957.
She was a member of the AARP, a volunteer at the Herkimer County Historical Society, a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Military Order of the Purple Heart where she served as local and state President. Her interests included genealogy, and she worked diligently at tracing her familys ancestry. Teresa also enjoyed travel and vacationed throughout Europe with family and friends. She visited Ireland, Italy, Switzerland, and France. She also traveled in Canada and much of the United States touring New England, Florida, Washington, D.C., the Southwest and Hawaii.
She is survived by her two daughters, Eileen M. Scanlon of Little Falls and Lois A. Scanlon and Glenn Wagner of the Thousand Islands area and his son Nicholas Wagner, Lake City, FL, nieces Mary Ann and Catherine Pratt, a nephew John Pratt and his wife Anna-their children and grandchildren, a step-nephew Francis Moore, two sisters-in-law along with many other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward McEvoy and her sister, Loretta Pratt.
A memorial mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 11:00 am from the Holy Family Parish Church, corner of Main and John Streets, Little Falls with the Rev. Anthony Ligato officiating. Interment will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Town of Herkimer.
Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. In keeping with Teresas wishes, her remains have been cremated and there are no calling hours.
