Obituary of Stephen (Deke) Walach
LITTLE FALLS - Stephen (Deke) Walach, 85 formerly of 14 High Street, Little Falls and more recent of Valley View Courts Apt's, Little Falls passed away Monday, August 1, 2005 at the Van Allen Nursing Home, Little Falls where he had been a resident since May of 2005.
He was born on January 6, 1920 in Little Falls the son of the late Simon and Suzanna (Duroska) Walach. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School and has been a life long resident of Little Falls.
Mr. Walach was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Coast Guard. Entering the service on May 28, 1942. He was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class on January 11, 1946.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls. As well as a member of the S/Sgt. Steve Stefula Post # 4612, V.F.W., Little Falls.
In 1948 Mr. Walach and his brother Paul established Walach's Men's Store on Main Street, Little Falls which they operated until they closed the business in 1976. From 1977 - 1979 they both operated the Iroquois Service Area gas station on the New York State Thruway in Indian Castle. After leaving the service station Mr. Walach was employed as a sales representative for several shoe manufactures prior to his retirement.
He is survived by his brother Michael Walach and his wife Bernice, Little Falls, nieces and nephews Joan Kohn and her husband Clarence, Little Falls, Mary Ann Gleason, Gloversville and Richard Wallach, Johnstown and several grand and great grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 brothers Simon Walach, Jr., who died on July 21, 1985, John Walach, who died on December 2, 1993 and Paul Walach, who died on May 11, 1996 and by 2 nephews Robert and John Wallach.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 1:00 pm from the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 E. Gansevoort Street Little Falls with the Rev. Carl Evans, Pastor officiating. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Little Falls.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 from 5-8 pm and to attend the funeral services Thursday morning.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Walach be considered to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 E. Gansevoort St., Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
