Obituary of Walter C. Weckesser
LITTLE FALLS Walter C. Weckesser 90 of 122 Wecks Road, Little Falls and since 2009 a resident of Winsted, CT where he has been residing with his daughter passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Torrington, CT.
He was born on September 9, 1920 in Little Falls the son of the late Henry and Rachael (Harris) Weckesser. He was educated in Little Falls schools
He was united in marriage to his wife of 52 years the former Anne Klasovity on June 28, 1947 at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls. Mrs. Weckesser predeceased him on September 26, 1999.
Mr. Weckesser was a veteran or World War II serving with the US Army Air Corps. Entering the service on September 10, 1942 at Camp Upton, NY. He served with the 392nd Bomb Group / 579th Bomb Squadron in the European Theater. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant on October 18, 1945 at the Rome Air Force Base, Rome, NY.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls. As well as a member of the S/Sgt. Steve Stefula Post # 4612, VFW, Little Falls and the American Legion Post # 31, Little Falls.
Walter was known for his love of gardening, especially his flowers. He was very generous with his flowers, giving them to a great many people to beautify their yards and lives. In memory of him, please consider planting a perennial plant in your yard this year.
Mr. Weckesser was employed for many years by the former H.P. Snyder Mfg. Co., Little Falls in the assembly department. Following their closing he was last employed by the former Brown Bros. Oil Co., Little Falls as a furnace repair and fuel deliveryman.
He is survived by his son William C. Weckesser, Toronto, Canada, his daughter and son in law with whom he resided Patricia and Christopher Eldredge, Winsted, CT and many nieces and nephews including James Roa of Little Falls who was a good friend and great help to Walter over many years.. He was predeceased by 5 brothers Earl, George, Fred, Alfred and James (Dick) Weckesser and 2 sisters Catherine Roa and Grace Polenski.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 6:00 pm from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with the Rev. Joseph Famulare, Pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery later in the spring where full military honors will be accorded.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Thursday, March 24, 2011 from 3-6 pm and to attend the funeral services to follow.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Weckesser be considered to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
