Obituary of William E. Cotter

LITTLE FALLS - William E. Cotter, 88 of 9 Moreland Street, Little Falls passed away Sunday, October 26, 2003. He was born on May 16, 1915 in Little Falls the son of the late William and Zula (McLallin) Cotter. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School as well as a graduate of the Excelsior School of Business, Utica. He was united in marriage to his wife of 48 years the former Eleanor Reardon on June 26, 1935 at St. Mary's Church, Little Falls. Mrs. Cotter predeceased him on August 23, 1983. Mr. Cotter was a veteran of the World War II serving with the US Navy. Entering the service on April 20, 1944 in Albany, serving aboard the LSMR 189 in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged as a Gunners Mate 3rd Class on December 17, 1945 at Lido Beach, LI, NY. He was a member of the Holy Family Parish of Little Falls. As well as the Elk's Lodge # 42 B.P.O.E, Little Falls, the former Mill Creek Lodge and former Camp Outlet and the National Rifle Association.. He was a avid hunter, billiard player and golfer. He also enjoyed spending time on his boat on the St. Lawrence. Mr. Cotter was employed for 34 years by the Herkimer County Trust Co., Little Falls retiring as Vice President on June 30, 1980. He is survived by 2 sons John Cotter and his wife Joanne, Salisbury Center and Joseph Cotter and his wife Marsha, Visalia, Calif., his daughter in law Phyllis Cotter, Rochester, his sister Margaret Rowan and her husband Miles, Marco Island, FL, 4 grandchildren Craig Cotter, Lynn Purdy and her husband Colin, Cheryl Cotter, James Cotter and Benjamin Cotter, 2 great grandchildren Caitlin and Kevin Purdy. He was predeceased by a son William E. Cotter, Jr., who died on August 19, 1982. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 31, 2003 at 11:00 am from the Holy Family Parish Church, Cor. of John and Main St's, Little Falls with the Rev. Charles R. Celeste officiating. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers it is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Cotter be considered to the Little Falls Family YMCA, 25 Jackson St., Little Falls, NY 13365. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
