Obituary of William J. Grose, Sr

LITTLE FALLS - William J. Grose, Sr., 82 of 43 Sherman Street, Little Falls passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 29, 2004 at his residence. He was born on July 10, 1922 in Little Falls in the home at 43 Sherman Street the son of the late John H. and Josephine (Riordan) Grose. He was educated in St. Mary's Academy, Little Falls. He was united in marriage to his wife of 62 years the former Elizabeth Sterusky on July 9, 1942 at St. Mary's Parish House, Little Falls by the Rev. Noonan. Mr. Grose was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Army. He entered the service on September 29, 1942 in Utica. He served with Headquarters Co., 71st L. Division at Camp Carson, Colorado. He was honorably discharged as a Technician 4th Grade on September 1, 1943. He was a member of the Holy family Parish of Little Falls. As well as a member of the Teamsters Union, AFL-CIO, Utica. Mr. Grose was employed at one time as a mechanic by R.G. Smith's Garage, Albany Street, Little Falls and later operated his own garage on Sherman Street, Little Falls. In 1946 along with his brother Charles they began the Grose Trucking Co. located in Ilion which he operated until his retirement in 1980. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, 2 sons William J. Grose, Jr. and his wife Joan, Little Falls and Charles P. Grose and his wife Marie, Schuyler, a daughter Betty Ann Nellis and her husband Richard, Herkimer, 5 grandchildren Monica Powell and her husband Daniel, Springfield, VA, Vicki Atlas and her husband Kenneth, Harwinton, Conn., Stephanie Smith and her husband Kristopher, Charlotte, NC, Mary Grose, Albany and Charles P. Grose, Jr., Schuyler, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a his brother Charles F. Grose, who died in 1971 and by his sister Marion Pender, who died in 1989. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls with Rev. Anthony Ligato, Pastor of the Holy Family Parish, Little Falls officiating. Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. There are no calling hours It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Grose be considered to a charity of one's choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home for this purpose.
