Obituary of Eva K DiNardi

LITTLE FALLS - Eva K. DiNardi, 86, formerly of Danube St. and E. Monroe St. (Valley View Courts), passed away on Monday, January 13, 2014, at the Alpine Health Center, Little Falls. Eva Katerina Otrupcak was born on July 10, 1927, on the Rollway Farm overlooking Little Falls. She was the 8th of 11 children of the late Stephen and Anna (Mizerak) Otrupcak and was educated in Little Falls schools. Eva’s parents moved to the U.S. from Czechoslovakia in the early 1900s and met here. After settling in Little Falls, Stephen and Anna’s family worshipped at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Jefferson St., donating firewood every winter to heat the church. All worked hard on the farm, yet had a lot of fun while growing up. Even during the Great Depression food was plentiful. Eva wed Michael DiNardi on April 23, 1948, sharing 63 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2011. She leaves three daughters who mourn her passing more than words can say: Anne DiNardi (Tim Schuster) of Kingston, NY, Susan (Daniel) Rush of Syracuse, NY and Eva DiNardi (Philip Gwyn) of Little Falls, NY. Eva will be remembered as a feisty lady with a sassy sense of humor. She was friendly to everyone, judged no one, and accepted life and people unconditionally. She was active at one time in the PTA and the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. Eva was once employed by the National Automotive Fibers Co. and Merrill Dress Shop, retiring as a seamstress from P & K Dress Shop in 1989. Eva loved to cook. Her many specialties included haluski, paprikas, golumke, chicken soup, homemade pasta, braciole, roski, pies, pickles and jams. She enjoyed sewing, reading, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, watching baseball, dancing, socializing with her extended family, fishing, and camping with her husband and friends in the Adirondacks, especially at Piseco Lake. Surviving are her daughters, as well as siblings Kristina Bucenec of Little Falls, Elaine (Edward) Kroll of Richfield Springs, Paul (Katherine) Otrupcak of Little Falls, and Michael Otrupcak of Killeen, Texas. She leaves many very special nieces, nephews and friends who loved her dearly, including those at Valley View Courts, Kinney Drugs and Stewart’s. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael DiNardi, on September 27, 2011; siblings Ann (Ralph) Anderson, Susanna (Gregory) Struble, Elizabeth (Joseph) Konik, Stephen (Helen) Otrupcak, John Otrupcak, and brother-in-law Daniel Bucenec. Eva’s family is especially grateful for the extended care provided by the dedicated staff at the Mohawk Homestead where she resided since 2012. Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial services to be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 10:00 am from the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 512 E. Gansevoort St., Little Falls with the Rev. Joseph Famulare, Pastor, officiating. Final interment will take place in the spring at Holy Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, E. Monroe St., Little Falls. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls, NY. There are no calling hours. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. DiNardi be considered to The Mohawk Homestead, Mohawk, NY. Envelopes are available at the funeral home for this purpose.
