Obituary of E. Charles Provorse

LITTLE FALLS - E. Charles Provorse, 99 of 550 E. John St., Apt# 8-F, Little Falls and for many years a resident of 7 Spencer St., Dolgeville passed away Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Alpine Nursing & Rehab. Center., Little Falls where he had been a resident since February 6, 2014. He was born on May 29, 1914 in St. Regis Falls, NY the son of the late Charles and Effie (Allen) Provorse. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School Class of 1935. He was united in marriage to his wife of 64 years the former Rachel Sarpen on October 5, 1940 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Dolgeville. Mrs. Provorse predeceased him on March 1, 2005. Mr. Provorse was a veteran of World War II, serving with the US Navy. Entering the service on September 16, 1942 in Albany, NY. He served with the Navy Seabees and was stationed in Alaska for 2 years. He was honorably discharged on October 28,1944 as an Electrician’s Mate Second Class at Long Beach, Calif. He was employed at one time by the Burrows Paper Corp., Little Falls and the New York Power and Light Co. He was the service manager and mechanic for the former Provorse Motor Sales, Little Falls and service manager for the former Mercurio Ford, Dolgeville. He was also a construction electrician for many years which he left to work for Herkimer County BOCES where he retired after 10 years of service to school system. Mr. Provorse was of the Lutheran - Presbyterian faith, a life member of the American Legion Post # 921 and a life member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post # 6392 both of Dolgeville. He was an over 50 year member of the Dolgeville Masonic Lodge # 796 F&AM, an avid bowler and golfer for many years where he enjoyed playing senior citizens league in Little Falls He is survived by his son and daughter in law Charles P. and Kathy Provorse, Dolgeville, his granddaughter and her husband Caryn and Dr. Matthew Cring and his great granddaughter Faith Cring all of Cooperstown, a sister Vivian Provorse, Ilion, a niece Patricia Fisher, Stamford, CT, his special friends Kathy Winkler and her family, Salisbury. He was predeceased by his brother W. Howard Provorse, and by a sister Viola Null. Graveside services will be held at Dolgeville Cemetery, Dolgeville at a time and date to be announce later in the spring. Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY. There are no calling hours. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Provorse be considered to the United Lutheran Presbyterian Church, 26 E. Faville Ave., Dolgeville, NY 13329. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
