Obituary of Edward A Karla
DOLGEVILLE – Edward A. (Mr. Ed) Karla, 97 of 26 Slawson Street, Dolgeville passed away Monday, April 14, 2014 at the Folts Center, Herkimer where he had been a resident since April of 2013.
He was born on October 21, 1916 in Dolgeville the son of the late William and Vernie (Coppernoll) Karla. He was a graduate of Dolgeville High School Class of 1935.
He was united in marriage to his wife of 51 years the former Helen Brooks on December 31, 1952 in Dolgeville. Mrs. Karla predeceased him on January 31, 2004.
Mr. Karla was a veteran of World War II serving with the US Navy. He entered the service on April 20, 1944 in Albany. He served as an Aviation Metal Smith at the Pensacola Naval Air Station, Florida and later as an Aerial Photographer. He was honorably discharged on January 14, 1946.
He was employed as a Supervisor of Industrial Engineering for the Remington Arms Co., Ilion retiring in 1976. During his time at Remington he served as the President of the Remington Arms Employees Association.
Ed loved the serenity of the out of doors. He enjoyed feeding the birds and critters in his own back yard. He also enjoyed the company of his many feline companions.
He is survived by his daughters and sons in law; Linda and Mark Stalnaker, Dolgeville, Judith and Renford Scheuerman, Gloversville and Norma and Ronald Lincourt, Sarasota, FL, his nine grandchildren Kimberly Prestigiacomo, Kelly Tucker, Brian Stalnaker, Heather Barbiaz, Ronald Lincourt, Jr., Karla Cagwin, Mark Scheuerman, Lorraine Gifford and Norma Scheuerman, twelve great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers Hugh Karla, 1975, Richard Karla, 1988 and William Karla, 2005.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11:00 am from the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY with Pastor Gertrude Ortlieb, Dolgeville officiating. Interment will follow in Dolgeville Cemetery, Dolgeville where Military Honors will be accorded.
Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home on Saturday, April 19, 2014 from 9-11 am and to attend the funeral services to follow.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mr. Ed be considered to the Herkimer County Humane Society, PO Box 73, Mohawk, NY 13407. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Folts Center for their wonderful care and compassion shown to Mr. Karla and his family and a special thank you to Shelia and the afternoon gang at Stewarts in Dolgeville for their kindness and friendship.
