Obituary of Alfred (Skip) D Munger

LITTLE FALLS - Alfred D. (Skip) Munger, 70 of E. Monroe Street, Little Falls passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 11, 1943 in Little Falls, the son of Alfred S. Munger of Little Falls and the late Lois (Smith) Munger. He was educated at Little Falls High School. On September 29, 1962 he was united in marriage to his wife of 51 years, the former Jeanne McCarthy at St. Mary’s Church, Little Falls. He was first and foremost a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend – always putting everyone first. Skip was known as a family man with a great sense of humor, always willing to lend a hand or fix whatever he could. Many would say his best talents were his wonderful skills of painting and wallpapering. Skip began his love of athletics in high school participating in basketball and track and field. For over thirty years, he held the triple jump record for the Little Falls High School which he took great pride in. In his later years, whether it be for his children, grandchildren or for the love of the game, you could find Skip and Jeanne cheering on the Mounties from the sidelines. Nothing gave him greater pride than seeing his daughter coach and watching his grandchildren play. Affectionately known to many as “Poppa”. He also had a great love for his animals. Mr. Munger was a member of the Little Falls Elk’s Lodge # 42 B.P.O.E and was one of the co-founders of the former Little Falls Varsity Club as well as a former Little Falls Little League Coach. He also enjoyed the years he spent at his camp at Half Moon Beach on Piseco Lake. He was employed for many years as a Supervisor for the Remington Arms Co., Ilion, as well as a part-time employee for the Little Falls NYS Thruway Exit 29A. He is survived by his father; Alfred S. Munger, Little Falls, his wife; Jeanne, his son; Steven Munger, Little Falls, his daughters; Pam Munger and Lori Becker and her husband Edward, all of Little Falls, his brother; Richard Munger and his wife Sandy, Little Falls, his sisters; Patricia Foshee and her husband Daniel, Holy Lake Ranch, TX and Linda Maida and her husband Greg, Herkimer, three grandchildren; Jaime, Jenna and Hannah Becker all of Little Falls and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother; Lois Munger in 1986 and by two brothers; Walter Munger in 1942 and James Munger in 2002. He also leaves behind very special in-laws, Peggy and Alan Andrilla whom they vacationed with many years at the Cape, and Tom McCarthy. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 9:30 am from the Holy Family Parish Church, Cor. of Main and John St.’s, Little Falls where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Terence Healy. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N.
