Obituary of Mary Ann Morse

HERTFORD, NC – Mary Ann Morse, 70 of 195 Hemlock Street, Hertford, North Carolina passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014 at Chowan Hospital. She was born on March 2, 1944 in Little Falls, NY the only child of the late John J. and Lola M. (Cross) Palkowski. She attended Little Falls High School and Mohawk Valley Community College, where she earned her nursing degree which qualified her to become a Registered Nurse. She was united in marriage to her husband of 36 years, Robert C. Morse, on September 29, 1977 in Bridgewater Episcopal Church in Bridgewater, New York, Reverend Hilles officiating. Mrs. Morse was a Registered Nurse, having been employed most recently as a supervisor in the Psychiatric Unit at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown, NY and previously at Faxton Hospital, Utica. She started her career as a Nurse’s Aide, just like her beloved mother Lola, then rose to Licensed Practical Nurse and ultimately Registered Nurse. Her career was tragically cut short as she sustained a back injury on the job. Mrs. Morse had a bright, spirited personality, with a child-like wonder and joy at all things that were new to her. She loved to laugh, like her mother Lola, with whom she had a special bond. Together with her husband, Robert, they would enjoy travelling and explore places that were new to them, including their most recent home in Hertford, North Carolina. They made many new friends in North Carolina, especially their friend Mike Rubles, and Mrs. Morse will be missed there. She was a member of the Bethel Church of Christ, N. Carolina and the Order of the Eastern Star in Schenevus, NY. Mrs. Morse was pre-deceased by her first child, Steven John Senk, in infancy. She is survived by her husband Robert, her sons John Senk (Laura) of Michigan, Steven “Louie” Senk (Lisa), George Snyder III (Bonnie), Donald Snyder (Nancy) and Richard Schmitt (Tonia) all of New York, her cousins Joanne Macri (Joe) and Lucy Helmer (Ken), seven grandchildren and her faithful canine companion Patche. Mrs. Morse loved and cared for many “furry friends” throughout her life, especially dogs, although she was known to adopt the occasional ferret, cat, or parrot. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 12:00 pm from the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 588 E. Albany Street, Little Falls, NY with the Rev. Dr. Steven A. Scarcia, Rector officiating. Interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church on Friday, July 11, 2014 from 11 am to 12 pm and to attend the funeral services to follow. Local funeral arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY. It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Morse be considered to the SPCA of Northeastern North Carolina, PO Box 1772, Elizabeth City, NC 27906. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
